I paid hundreds of dollars just for my psychiatrist to meet with me once and then to never respond to me again, despite my many attempts to contact her. She prescribed me new medication and then never once followed up on it, which was incredibly unprofessional and unsafe. I then emailed TalkSpace support, who informed me that I couldn’t get a refund, but I could get rematched and spend more money to have another initial appointment. This whole experience took about 3 or 4 months of my time that could’ve been spent getting better. I already have a hard time asking for help, and this only added frustration and exhaustion. Don’t waste your money or your time! UPDATE: As you can see, Talkspace responded to this review. Don’t be fooled—nothing was done after this response; it’s all for show. Many months later, I was finally able to find a psychiatrist who was committed to helping me. Upon telling her about my experience with Talkspace, she was very concerned and told me that this was extremely unsafe and could’ve been so much worse if I was in a worse place mentally. I was also misdiagnosed and given very incorrect medication, which negatively impacted my life. Please please don’t jeopardize your mental health. For an app that specializes in mental health, this is unacceptable. I am so worried for others who get tricked into using this app. This is not a safe app to use.

Don’t waste your time or money

I should have known something was wrong when I tried to get ahold of customer service for a billing issue. Still haven’t heard back a week later. Resolved the issue myself but now I can’t get ahold of either therapist I matched with and apparently I don’t actually get the 1 session a week I paid for. Unfortunately for me I paid 3 months in advance (over $1,000) and there doesn’t seem to be any way to get my money back other than claiming fraud with my bank. I think it’s a good concept but they clearly don’t have the manpower at the moment to make it work. For how much they charge they should at least have a customer service phone number…but no just automated responses to your messages and no accountability. Hopefully your reading these reviews instead of seeing the App Store rating and purchasing this service like I did.

Scam?

My wife talked me into trying talkspace. I’m in between in-person therapists. They had a person who responded through the app set me up despite it being late at night, which was cool, but I immediately spotted some pretty concerning things with their business model. I subscribed for a month, and they gave me four credits for tele-appointments. The catch is that they gave me a deadline to use those credits, which was a month from when I paid, which would be fine except that it would be almost a week in to that time before my therapist’s first available appointment time. On top of that my therapist in his first message to me said he is spending 10 days before Christmas on vacation, which leaves me wondering how I’m supposed to actual use all of these credits. And this would all be fine, except when I tried to get a refund the automated program only offered me a partial refund (2/3 of the original fee), despite 1) only having paid a fews days prior, 2) not having any appointments scheduled and never having spoken to my therapist, and 3) not using the service in any tangible way. I contacted support, and despite being able to get a real person to help me immediately in the middle of the night to sign up, it’s been four days and I still haven’t heard back from anyone. For those of you keeping track: a live person (or a good bot) is available immediately regardless of time of day to get you to sign up, but after they have your money the therapist will take almost a week before seeing you, and support may or may not ever get back to you. I don’t recommend.

Life's a Polyp

The app doesn’t work properly, every time I tried to have a live video sessions with my therapist the app didn’t show the other had joined the session so the video session couldn’t be completed. We were only able to text each other and the app usually never notified my therapist I had sent her a message. Customer support is a joke. I swear it’s just a bots in customer support because they clearly never read your message and never answer your questions. If you do send a message to support, start off with that you want to talk to a supervisor. It was the only way I was able to finally get a refund since the app never worked to let me do a video session.

No humans available as therapists or product support

I signed up to speak with a therapist who was scheduled 2 weeks out. Two days before the initial appointment I was just ghosted. Talkspace said the therapist never confirmed my appointment though I received several assessments that I spent time completing. Then I received a notice from Talkspace that they were canceling my account because I hadn’t selected a new therapist in time. I reached out to support, who sent me a message 5 days later saying they’d had a high volume of requests that were all pretty much resolved and to resubmit my request if it was still pending. At that point I elected not to move forward with Talkspace anymore. It sounded like a convenient app but has been nothing but headaches. I’ve yet to speak with a human.

Unresponsive, Flaky Therapists

I have gone through five therapists now in about a three month period. I had a therapist I liked for about three weeks, then he left talk space. I tried two others, neither got back to me until I pressed them, neither were taking new patients. Fourth person set up a video appointment, then didn’t show or contact me. Now my “therapist” takes days to respond and doesn’t seem to understand the concept at all. My work place is paying for this “therapy” and I have spoken with my HR department about how poorly this program works. Definitely would not recommend.

3 different therapists, no response

I’ve been trying to use Talkspace for a couple months and never got a single response from a therapist. It’s absolutely ridiculous. I tried this app as a last resort after finding out that there are no therapists within an hour of me taking new clients. This is the only app covered by my insurance so thanks a lot Talkspace. Don’t even bother with this app, it’s not worth it.

A whole new world

I’m a little upset at what they did with this app. I had TalkSpace way before you had to pay to speak with therapists. This app used to be free and able to communicate with a whole community of people who have or are going through the same thing you are. It was a great platform I would interact with people. I come back after awhile and now I gotta pay to speak with therapists. It became a whole different app. I don’t got money to afford for therapy hence why I would come to a community with others that I could communicate with. Now I lost all that…

Unresponsive therapist

I also signed up, and had a very responsive lady that took my information but then when I picked a therapist I got no responses. I also have yet been able to schedule a time with my assigned therapist because he never has the time slot open and he never responds to any messages. Starting to think this is a scam. I’m very disappointed with the whole process. I paid over $300.
