Found glitch

Love this app! There is a glitch that when I add a incorrect appearing charector I cannot delete it

Incredibly Helpful, and They Don't Tell You That...

TW Smith

I began using this app to help me 'chunk' bigger stories. It has been invaluable for me to learn the techniques to writing. Then by sheer accident I realized, It has a Mac Companion that syncs via icloud! Now it is taken over as my number one writing tool, then I export it down to Scrivener for final mastering. AWESOME TOOL! TW. Smith

There Have Always Been Problems...

mr.grench

I loved this app when I got it (about 4 years ago) but there is always another problem to replace what gets fixed. This has been the case for a while now. The problem now is that when I go to retrieve my stories from cloud, it doesn’t work. I get an error message saying I can’t connect to iCloud, but on top of it I get a message box with a loading wheel telling me that it’s configuring the database. At this point the app freezes and doesn’t let me do anything.

e-awesomeness

I love this little app. Makes it simple and quick to jot down any fiction idea I get, anytime, and I can keep several stories going and organized at once and lose nothing. I’ve been looking for this sort of app for years. I use Scrivener, but that’s a bit too bulky and complex to be popping out of my pocket just to jot down a sentence or brief idea. Notepads don’t cut it, either, because I’m too disorganized to sort through random jabbering later. The organization— plot, characters, settings, etc.—is logically laid out in a way that makes complete sense to me— not perfect but close enough. And the price is definitely right. I don’t think I would have purchased this one for 20 bucks, though I’m not sure about that now that I’m using it. Paying a total of about eight dollars for the desktop and iOS versions was a sweet bonus that encourages me to look at what else the developers might come up with. The short version: love it!

Amazing app

Carnasys

Previously I used an app called “a novel idea” however it was taken out of the App Store. For a long time I could find no other app like it until I found this. It’s the perfect tool for organizing your story ideas. It’s simple, versatile, and cheap. I’d give it a 5 star but I feel like it is missing a couple more features that could really set it above the rest.

Doesn't sync changes between devices over iCloud

Reader1718

It crashes constantly, which makes it unusable. It doesn't export certain filetypes like it should. Now the”plot type” choices under Scenes comes up blank! This is inexcusable! Fix it now! These things are basic functionality. Having them work this poorly is just pathetic!

Outlines and Troubleshooting

S. Berry

The outlines are great for when I need structure. They provide just enough of a prompt to get me going. The exporting features also fit my needs: Dropbox, Scrivener, Notes, etc. Any technical issue I’ve had with the app, the company has always been quick to respond. They make me feel like I’m really contributing to helping them make the software better.

Great for visualizing a plot!

Rumpus Kitten

I have found this app very useful and easy to use. However there is a bug that causes it to crash whenever I add characters to a scene. Despite that, it is an awesome app.

Great App!

Update: Thank you for your response and clearing that up. And, you were right, so I amend my review. It is a great app. Period. Great app! Love the outlining capabilities. However, changing characters and locations once you’ve made a scene card isn’t possible. Is this a glitch because it would make sense for a writer to have the option to change things or simply correct a mistake. Other than this small concern, this is a very great app. Please check into this please.

Just Right

[I am revising my earlier review to reflect a feature I wanted, but had not found as of that writing. You can find very helpful explanations of the writing jargon by hitting the circled “i” in the top right corner. So, not only is it well-designed, it is a mini writing clinic, too. I can also add that the developer was prompt and helpful. Read on for why Story Planner was such an exciting find for me.] Writing is not my problem. I have two conventionally-published books in print. My problem is my habit of winging it. This is a very inefficient way to work. Story Planner demands that I put advance thought into characters, locations, plots (oh, especially those) and scenes before I begin writing. In other words, it helps me lay a solid foundation for my project. It is perfect for my iPad, and even works well on my iPhone. Everything remains synced on iCloud. It can handle multiple projects. (The Master Cat is included to illustrate the features.) It is always handy for when inspiration strikes, but is so much more than a writer’s notebook. The UI is simple and intuitive. It gives you just what you need to plan (not write) your novel. Frills are few, but welcome. For example you can add small pictures to characters and locations to help keep them vivid in your imagination. However, simple does not mean skimpy. Each major section has a few subsections designed to walk you through the basic elements of your project. The subsection windows are either multiple choice (for example, which already-created characters are in a scene) or open (such as physical description of characters). In either case, you have plenty of room to work. Story Planner lets you work your way. The way each section works with the others makes continuity errors hard to blunder into and helps you maintain a sense for your novel as a whole. A place for notes is provided in the sections, which is nice for leaving writing ideas, research or describing how a scene develops your themes. (I use Scrivener to write, and consider Story Planner as complimentary. It is not meant to do all the things Scrivener can do, but the things it does do - help you in different ways to plan your project - it does better, in my opinion.) Story Planner provides a good balance between simplicity and usefulness, Unless you are a muse-coddled writer from whose subconscious flow complete, intricately-plotted stories, it should be useful to you.
