Useless app - recorded programs unavailable

rajpatel22

I recent subscribed to Sling so that I could what my favorite sports. When I am unable to watch games live, I record them - nice feature but when you look for the recording it’s either unavailable at this time or not even listed. Many times you just see duplicate entries and nothing is viewable. While the service works well on other platforms, this app is a waste of time.

Michigan V Ohio State game Blacked our on Sling TV

Sling Intentionally decides which games they’ll broadcast and even though they advertise YOUR big game, and Tweet about it, you’ll be stuck without the game and they’ll blame technical difficulties the issue. By HULU for less and get what you pay for.

It's great when it works

Sling is great and has kept me from going back to traditional cable. However, the app on iOS is frustrating especially when watching on-demand offerings with no fast forward control. For example, halfway watching the show, the stream will stop and the app will crash. I load up the app again and resume, instead I'm behind 15 min from where I left off. I'm forced to rewatch the same scenes and commercial, then the app crashes again. And once again I am forced to resume from the same previously watched scene all over again. Edit: Several months after, this bug is still present. It still crashes during commercials.

So far so good

Saving around $1000 per year via net neutrality has been fun while it lasted!

Great potential, horrible results.

The concept of sling is great. An app that allows you to watch your favorite shows live and on demand, where ever and when ever, without all the equipment, hidden fees and insane contracts that regular cable a satellite providers are know for. It's a great concept, if sling was able to deliver. They don't though. There's still many channels that sling doesn't offer, like spike and TLC. They also don't offer the big channels like CBS,NBC, ABC, Fox, etc. The on demand shows rarely work, the app usually crashes. Often times it will crash in the middle or towards the end of a show, and the only way to ever see the end is to restart it from the beginning and pray you make it to the end before it crashes again. There are symbols that you'd assume were fast forward/rewind/pause buttons, but they don't do anything when you press them. Sometimes the pause button works, but the app crashes when you try to resume. So if the app crashes 5 minutes before the end of your show, you can either restart it from the beginning, or move on with your life and never see the ending. Take my advice, spend the extra money and go with a provider like dish or direct TV. Sling may be cheaper, but it's not worth $20-$40 a month considering it barely works. Spend the extra money of a different tv provider, at least their products and services function properly and you get all the channels you want and not just a few.

This gets you what you need at a great price!!

Good service, poor app.

CrabbyGnome

SlingTV is a solid TV streaming service but this specific iOS app is pretty poor. First it doesn’t always keep a solid stream so you get repeated blurry video at times. Second it will not start a stream when coming back from suspended, I.e. when you hit home button and then bring it back. You have to kill/stop the app then start it up again to work. Sling needs to update this one.

False advertising, predatory marketing tactics

Crumb head

Do not fall for the scam that is Sling. They market that local channels are available through their special package, racking the total cost up to $40+tax per month. Once you sign up, you’ll find that 1) Sling disables the use of AirPlay entirely and 2) will not let you watch certain shows (e.g., local football games) on your phone due to “restrictions.” Of course, once you realize this and cancel your service, they will refuse to refund you for the scam that they’ve sold you. Don’t make the same mistake that I made, and look for alternative options. I’ll be filing a Better Business Bureau complaint against this company as well, to hopefully save other consumers from wasting $45 under Sling’s predatory sales and false advertising tactics.

Good but not great

App will often not load on my Apple TV until I restart Apple TV. PITA! No problems on Roku or windows. I’m CNN freak so that’s pretty much all I watch and was only motivation for subscribing. I swear this is also my second rating/review yet Sling keeps pestering me to rate. Please stop!!!!

has only gotten worse in past 6 months. I give up

update 11/17. I’ve added two stars back a recent update on roku MyTv page is great! you can now see what is playing on your favorite channels, avoiding the guide. YAY. I think the service is somewhat more reliable since recent updates. There are still glitches, and disruptions, but I would say its still worth it. I have tried almost all other streaming live tv apps and this is just the most cost effective. Now my biggest complaint is that Sling is NOT a la carte, as advertised. I watch NO sports but a significant amount of my monthly bill goes to sports networks. Worse yet, there is no way for me to get FreeForm, without paying $15more a month for Blue+Orange. While other streaming services keep on adding networks, I haven’t seen any additions to sling in almost a year, pretty disappointing especially for local broadcast. I would really like to see a much slimmer base package, without sports, and the ability to add on individual (or at least small packages) channels. Please, Please try to come up with network deals allowing for more individualized packages. original review: I got rid of cable to save money. but sling has gone from OK, to almost unwatchable. I use sling on my Roku TV, on a Roku Premiere, and on an ipad. My biggest complaints: All freeze up constantly and i have fast FIOS internet. Often Im forced to start shows over or cant get them to play at all. This has gotten worse, not better recently. When i first started using Sling about 8 months ago, it was relatively easy to filter to my favorites, but it still irked me that i would have to filter every time and there is no way to set a preference to keep filters on. That is no longer the case. On my Roku I must now click 10x all over the screen using multiple remote buttons, just to get to my favorite channels. The newest updates to the Roku app have just gotten worse. and I am personally insulted that Sling continues to advertise 'A la Carte' service, when I'm still forced to subscribe to (and scroll through) 15 channels I have no interest in, yet CANT get Freeform, without paying $20 mor a month, for another 20 channels I don't want. Don't call it A LA Carte until you can actually choose what you want and what you don't. The only reason i still am tolerating Sling at all anymore, is the price. I'm paying $30 per mnth for a decent lineup, including a very basic cloud dvr service. But Ive had just about enough and will switch to youtubetv when they create a Roku app.
