Touch ID

Guffey60

I love the RCA doorbell on my front door and the floodlights camera on back door. I would have given it 5 stars but I'm frustrated with the app requiring me to manually log in when I have touch ID enabled. This is an immediate needed fix for the software. The hardware is better and cheaper than the Ring doorbell, I had it and replaced with this one. The Ring system is just a money grab scheme to get you to sign up for monthly/annual storage fees, etc.

Changed from 5 star to 1

I had to change my review, going from 5 star to 1 Updated again 8/10/20 This camera is so unreliable. I LOVE the idea of being able to see and talk to people at my front gate. However, there are too many times I don’t receive any alerts and video isn’t recorded of people and cars who are right in front of the camera! And this in spite of me re-logging on several times a day. When I first got this it would keep me logged on. So come on RCA software engineers! Get this app going right soon! So I can give you 5 stars again and be HAPPY! Updated again 12/16/19 Just changed to one star. It’s bad enough I now have to keep relogging in —REALLY?!! Now it’s offers the CApcha verification, but it won’t accept whatever I type the accurate letters and numbers in! Ridiculous! Now the camera is worthless!, ______________^^^^^^^^^^^ My first irritation is after a slight power interruption I had to physically go to my camera to push a restart button - and I couldn’t until I got home! So who was at my door while I was gone? 2. I stopped getting notifications and then noticed it had stopped recording. I can still live view, but, again, don’t know who was here while I was gone. It’s still not recording and it has unlinked my phone number and the app doesn’t respond to me trying to link up again! 3. There’s no option to contact. So to whom do I submit problems to? Very frustrating! This was my first review: Ive had this video doorbell about a month now. I was hesitant to buy it because of some of the negative reviews. I have to say I’ve had none of those issues written about. Perhaps those issues or bugs have been fixed. The set up was easy. I have it set up at my front gate, which is about 150’ from my house. I already had a power supply there for my automatic gate opener. Took me a few days to fully understand how to view the videos. At first I thought I had a lot of missed action because they weren’t showing up in my messages. But then when I change to view videos I could view everything that had come within range of the motion detector. I’m not sure why everything doesn’t show up in Messages. But I’m glad I can view all action through videos. Prior to this I had the I See Bell. My attraction to both was no monthly fee to view My videos. The Isee had a lot of glitches at first but software updates seemed to solve. The main problem with it was it’s limitation to the 2.4 WiFi network due to its distance at the gate. It stopped working after a little over a year. Then I began searching for a new video doorbell. My criteria was a 5 GHz WiFi network and no monthly fees. While more expensive the RCA had what I was looking for. I view it on my iPhone 8 and iPad. Because I was not hooking it up to a prior doorbell wiring I did need a power supply so I bought an 18 volt doorbell transformer, UL certified Power supply adapter transformer charger compatible video doorbells. (18v AC/500 mA). Don’t go with less voltage. So one month in I’m very happy with my purchase

Fix the recurring login problem.

I’d actually be happy to give this closer to a four except for one critical inexplicable flaw in this app that other people have mentioned. Even if you enable Face ID, it still makes you actually type in the password. If you use a password management app and have a decent password, this adds about five steps to answering the front door which basically makes this useless. The hardware is otherwise great, the installation was painless, I like that they don’t charge a subscription. They have everything they need to be successful if they fix that one stupid bug. I’m afraid of introducing the app to my family at this point and hoping they just continue to use it as a dumb doorbell. I have never successfully managed to actually answer the doorbell in time when somebody arrived Update: It appears cryptically that disabling image security removes the password requirement on every door bell ring when face logo enables. Cautiously trying that but not happy that removing encryption is needed to remove password check Update2: sadly that suggestion from seller did nothing. Still asks for Face ID to unlock and then asks for the password again once a day. Makes it unusable Back to one star

More issues!

I have to log in almost every time I open the app. It remembers my user name but not my password. That’s been frustrating. Now I can’t even log in! My camera is my front light and I’m required to copy a code as a “security measure” but even though I’m typing it in correctly it just keeps bringing me back to the same page to put in a new code. I’ve lost use of my front lights and camera!

Was a great doorbell but seems like they don’t care anymore

Jssjr79

This was a great doorbell when it started and I was recommending it to everyone but then it’s like they quit caring about their customers. The picture quality is great but the app support went down to none. It has Face ID but never logs you in with your face. Come on guys read your reviews as take some pride in the app that you developed. The quality of the video is excellent now let’s get the app support where it should be and this would be a great security cam.

Almost useless - any useful functionality is well hidden

Granddad Runner

This has to be the most useless app I have. The RCA camera doorbell got good reviews. Easy to install; no monthly charges. The app is useless. By the time you login; does not accept face or touch, the person at the door is long gone. Now try to figure out which menu item or menu name lets you review recent video history; good luck!!

Forced login when the doorbell rings

WillyWheel

When I get an alert for the doorbell and click on it it forces me to login again. Huge pain. PLEASE FIX!! ***update*** still an issue

RCA Doorbell camera

This camera is really good and easy to install. Highly recommended ?

Answering the doorbell has never been harder

OSaveMeJeebus

Negates the purpose of a video doorbell. Top of the list is the login requirement. Doorbell rings, open app, click to try fingerprint login (it fails anyway), scramble to login by text, forget password, reset, re-login, finally load video feed just in time to see somebody walking off. NEW ADDED FEATURE: there’s a security verification captcha. And somewhere along the way the video stopped archiving activity. So yeah, I just have a very expensive dumbbell.

Frustrating login nonsense

peterott

Every time I open the app I have to login. It is set up for Face ID and it never logs in the first time. I have to close the app completely and relaunch it and maybe it will then login. That might sound like a little thing but when someone is at the door, how are they to know I’m busy trying to log in? By the time I do get the app to load, the person at the door is gone. Therefore, the feature of the doorbell where I can talk to the person at the door is useless. At this point it is unlike I would recommend this product because the app is garbage.
