New UI improvements, but some obvious fails

D2Rhino

The new UI is much cleaner, but... 1) Missing night mode 2) No table of contents view STILL 3) Impossible to delete images out of documents 4) Impossible to format tables The above have been lacking for YEARS. Cmon, guys... Also, 1) Sharing is clunky 2) No drag n drop, either inside the app or from outside of the app into the app (lacking for years...) 3) #4 makes it incredibly slow and clunky to organize documents 4) No tagging (folder only organization is very 1996...) The pros: 1) Markdown 2) Comments and chats are solid 3) Virtually destruction-free editing (Neutrino fails at this, otherwise I’d use Neutrino) 4) Solid collaboration system + permissions

Dark theme?

Combat Medic Music Lover

Come on, it’s 2020. The world is full of chaos, and nothing goes our way. We could at least use a dark theme so we don’t have to strain our eyes looking at that bright white theme. Food for thought. Otherwise: app does what it’s supposed to.

Losing text while using the latest version

ZHUO.QL

I typed some paragraphs on my phone, selected the text, copied it, switched to another app and pasted the text, then switched back to quip, the text disappeared. Disappointed.

I ❤️ Quip

ethicalsean

Quip is the only collaboration app I’ve found that is conceptually perfect. The exact way you can collaboratively edit documents in Quip (where the edit and read views are the same) combined with chat (inline, in the sidebar of a document, and in rooms/channels) is magic. It’s a deceptively small feature set, but they’re composed in the exact right way, such that you won’t need Slack, Office, Confluence, etc. Quip absolutely nails its product design. It’s such an expressive tool, that you can fit almost any process into it. The Mac app is great too. I wish Quip supported Dark Mode. I wish the performance of editing large documents was better. I wish their code block support (language detection and syntax highlighting) was world-class. I wish they doubled-down on polishing what’s there instead of chasing competitors. But all-in-all Quip is exactly what I wish all teams used.
