Inadequate and impoverished because Apple keeps it that way

HansG

25 years ago I had a Mac Quadra 800; it had a blazing 33-MHz processor and a massive 500MB of storage. On it I used Word 5.1 for Mac, which was a lovely program before Word 6 became bloatware. Word 5.1 on that machine could anything that this version of Pages can do and more. Eventually, I got a new Mac (I forget which one) and needed a replacement for Word (the then-current version remaining bloatware), so I got iWorks (or was it still Claris?); the predecessor to Pages was fine, and the drawing program was lovely. Then Apple upgraded the word processor to Pages — and it really was an upgrade — but alas lost the lovely drawing program. Pages for the Mac really used to be a quality 5-star program, while the iPhone and iPad versions were inadequate. Then someone at Apple decided to make them identical, not by improving the iVersions but by emasculating the Mac version. The iVersions remain inadequate. They still aren’t identical. Here are some of the things missing from the iVersion of Pages: Set a default font other than the criminally-ugly Helvetica (the Swiss should be ashamed); Insert a Layout break; Control character spacing; Find without having to find Find; Find-and-replace; Replace All; Replace with a carriage-return/Paragraph. And those are just what I needed TODAY. A comprehensive list would be quite long.

Where is the presenter mode?

Why did you guys remove the presenter mode on iPhone? I don’t see it now.

beats Microsoft

For those Apple product lovers, I think this is the best way to type up stories and other documents. This doesn’t come close to Microsoft Office because you don’t have to pay monthly fees for no reason and comes with your Apple Products which makes it easier and straight forward. How you like them Apples?

Writers Beware

Oh god. Please do NOT use this application. You are at a very very very high risk of losing all your saved editing and works. When it says “pages can’t open your file for some reason” and you lose an entire nights worth of editing you will not be able to contain your rage. Please use google docs and have mercy on your sanity. Good god. Now i have to reedit everything I did overnight, if i remember it all, and send out the google docs link to all the collaborators, editors & reviewers who had access to the previous pages document. Don’t send me one of those automated responses apple. This is to warn others not to have their time egregiously wasted.

Mostly good

I really like using this app on my iPad, I mainly use it for art. However, when I use it on my iPhone, I can start doing something, but then it will take me straight back to my home screen. That’s my only complaint.

Add a word by moving tab

jake..yy

Great app. One thing I don’t like in this new update is trying to move the tab or select and copy and paste. Sometimes I just want to move the tab to add a word and all it does is select the whole sentence. These two options are great but not the way they work now. This should be fixed soon. Then it will be a great app.

Used to like

But after coming back to it and trying to edit my resume I’m having the hardest time it’s insane. Just trying to do things and I’m having to google so much stuff and even watch YouTube videos trying to figure out how to do bullet points like I had and darker text also like I had. Shouldn’t be this hard. I’m having such a hard time that I’m now giving up on the resume that I have used and just been editing for years now to start all over and creat a new one. I’m glad I didn’t have to pay for this app but even at free it’s almost not worth it.

Where to start...

First would be how to thank an app developer for such a great work on developing this app from the beginning to what it is now. I use it on a daily basis and its been a great tool for my line of work. The ease of creation is amazing and converting a document to whats on your mind is crazy! At the end of the day i can be happy to be able to export to my co-workers on Microsoft Word if need be and still maintain the same level of proficiency across the board. I guess i can start by saying thank you Apple for this great tool! ?
