They have done a great job focusing on the core use case: “just play my darn podcasts please”. It just works. This leads to a safe driving experience, which helps maintain market share.

Like a ton of other people I switched because Apple's app just got to the point it was unusable. I'm a heavy podcast listener, 6 - 8 hours a day while working. I looked at the reviews and chose Overcast. I have been using it now for a few months and have not been disappointed. It's easy to use, very privacy centric and has many useful features/tweeks. I love the smart playlists, the per podcast settings, the custom back/forward seek times and the Smart Speed/Voice Boost. I listen to several podcasts where the podcaster speaks english as a second language so there's long pauses while they're speaking. The Smart Speed fixes that and has allowed me to listen to some podcasts that I just couldn't get through because of the speaking rhythm. As a final note, my wife, who listens for 4-6 hours a day, was complaining about the Apple app today and she just converted over to Overcast. So far she seems overjoyed too.

The OS 11 update to the Apple podcast player is a deathnell for Apple. This company insists on adding layer upon layer of complication to its apps to the point that battery life suffers, user interface becomes awful. Feeing More and More like windows. Thank you Overcast for bringing back a simple user interface for podcasts.

Works great. Playlists are awesome and the ability to select priority podcasts is a cool feature. Way better then the Apple podcasts app.

Edit: 4/29/18 Truly appreciate the anonymity provided by not using my email address. It is a great additional feature. Thank you, Marco. I think the key decision for me to download this app and transport my subscriptions from Castro to Overcast was the developer of Overcast. In past, he has proven faithfulness and urgency to his projects, and I project this will be the same. His work in the past has been so impressive, I found it natural to go the extra $4.99 for features I'm not even likely to use, for his support. I'm thankful for developers who perceive a need, release an initial idea that works well out of the box, consider past apps I've used (and transfer their data), and persistently reiterate new and improved ideas for an excellent experience. That said, I highly recommend Overcast for an excellent podcast experience both now and continuing over the next couple years.

This is the standard to which all podcast apps might be judged. What attention to detail! The smart speed feature alone is worth it. This is a podcast app made by (and for) a podcasting enthusiast.
