So annoying.

Mr stomps on puppies!

It makes me “set up” the app every time I try to get in, I then set it up only for it to make me go thru the processes again the next time I open the app. I don’t understand! It won’t even let me run a speed test 90% of the time.

Offensive Privacy Invasion

I like netgear products, but, with this upgraded app, this company was trying to FORCE me to register my new router and when I tried their new app, the app used MY Internet connection to register my router for me. And then sent me an e-mail to confirm my registration AS IF I, personally, submitted the registration!! I’m refraining from cussing (cursing) here. I’ve lost respect for this company. I still have a week so I might return their router for a Linksys! App blacklisted and deleted! E-mail account will be deleted also.

Great experience!!

Doesn’t work very well

I used the older Netgear app before this and one and unfortunately the app forced me to upgrade to the Nighthawk app. The Nighthawk app is worse and flat out doesn’t work very well. To start, the new Nighthawk app forced me to create a Netgear account just to use the app and connect to my router (while I was at home on the network). I don’t want a Netgear account. Too bad for me. The old app didn’t force me to do this. When selecting the firmware update option, the app acts like it’s updating the firmware. Then it says it updated. Problem is, it didn’t update the firmware. Router is still running the old firmware. The old app actually updated my firmware. I run a 5g and 2.4g network with my router. My iPhone is connected to the 5g network. When the app reboots the router, either from a firmware update (that doesn’t actually update the firmware) or from the reboot option, the app isn’t smart enough to try and reconnect to the router via the 5g network. It by default tries to connect via the 2.4g network that my iPhone isn’t connected to. The old app was intelligent enough not to try and connect to the wrong network.

Make no mistake!

Absolutely the best WiFi router on the market! Don’t trust any other brand than Netgear!

Great app, until latest updates. Now app is showing devices that are not on WiFi. Showing devices that ARE on WiFi but they actually are on LAN . Will not allow editing of device name save. Absolutely horrendous update .

Rarely useful, updating firmware bricks router

Whenever I need to check something, it’s because the WiFi is out, so it doesn’t connect. The app notifies you if it needs a firmware update. If you update your router firmware through the app, the update always gets interrupted, and kills your router until you reload the firmware manually over a direct wired connection to your computer.

Cannot login locally to the device

Update: I got the following from the developer: “There are a number of benefits to connecting your router to your Netgear account including the ability to manage your network remotely, receive security updates for your specific devices, and much more! ” I beg to disagree. Allowing incoming connections from the WAN side exposes the router to hacking. Netgear accounts and passwords could get exposed, man-in-middle attacks etc. Even if you allow remote logins, don’t remove the local login option!! ===== I cannot login to the device locally (using username “admin”) anymore. I never use a Netgear account (using an email address). Bring back local logins!!!

Simple and efficient.
