Good concept, limited by iOS

diyphysics

I admire the goal of this app, and likely those who dedicate themselves to its intended use gain benefit. However, proper integration of the app requires too many modifications to how I use my device. Simply put, this app cannot know what app you’re currently looking at. It just logs screen time. This might seem useful, but I found it too coarse to be valuable. For example, I often use my device to navigate when driving- This screen time is logged just as if I were using Twitter or Safari. The work-around provided by taking screenshots of one’s app power usage is clever but onerous. After seeing these numbers, I’m skeptical that iOS is accurately representing the screen time for each app. Ultimately, I recommend this app to those who are serious about reducing screen time and willing to sacrifice their current habits.

Can't complete first task

My phone doesn't show 24 hour or 7 days for battery usage (it shows the last 17 therefore my baseline total is completely off

Great Idea

Jojo12340

This app is a great idea and I would love if it worked. This first week or so I used the app, it would track my usage well, but then it started to lose my trust. The amount of time I spent on my phone started to grow a ton even though I felt like I was using my phone the same amount. I checked the usage (or whatever it’s called) tab in the app and the numbers the time it said I was using it throughout the day didn’t add up. For instance I would do the math based on what it said my pickups and usage time was and it would come out to more than an hour under what the overall total was. In my mind, I was like this makes sense they’re trying to sell a product that makes you decrease your phone usage, or at least makes you feel like you are decreasing your phone usage, so it makes sense to inflate the numbers to then just show the actual numbers once people buy the premium product or whatever it’s called. Now, I didn’t wanna just leave it at that, I wanted to be thorough, so I tracked my phone usage myself and compared it to the app’s purported usage and my hypothesis was correct and the app inflated your usage. Its too bad the developers have chosen to inflate the numbers, I think this is a great idea with great potential to actually help people use their phones less and connect with people around them more, but it’s part of a business model and has to make a profit so I understand why they have made the choices they have.

This tracks your every move

Excellent714

I downloaded and tried to use this app with high hopes. However, in order to do that, you must allow them to TRACK YOUR LOCATION AND EVERY MOVE YOU MAKE! This is an invasion of your privacy and also uses up your battery regardless what they say. Be very careful of invasive apps like this as there can be nothing good to come of it.

Life Changing

Ellyseisawesome

Moment has dramatically improved the quality of my life. I found myself frustrated with my phone usage and one day I googled “How to use your phone less” and Moment was the first thing to come up and I remember on the first day of the 14 day bootcamp when it asked me not to use my phone for 30 minutes, it was so much harder than I had anticipated. Over time, it got easier and easier. By the cold turkey day at the end of the course I was so proud to say that I had used my phone for less than 2 minutes that day. During the course there was a day that I was at a doctors office in the waiting room and I noticed after about 15 minutes of waiting, I hadn’t touched my phone once. I had just been observing my surroundings and lost in thought. It made me so happy! I use my phone to communicate, and to keep notes and use basic resources, but I don’t waste my time. My life is so much more organized, I am so much happier, I sleep better, I read more, I take better care of myself, and most of all I am present in my day-to-day life. If you're looking for a catalyst to a better, happier, more productive life, moment is the place to start.

Truly Life-Changing. Life-SAVING for me.

Worth Trying at the Least

Moment is the best app I have ever invested in, for as a high schooler I have absolutely no self control and this app controls the part of me that I cannot. I found this app through Bored & Brilliant, and am so glad I did. I can see that the days I am the happiest are the ones I spend the least time on my phone, and that most of the time I do spend on it, is so I can put aside the work I dread doing, but know I’ll have to pay attention to later. Students like me should have it, so they can see where all the hours they should spend sleeping or socializing are going, and what apps they need to ignore in order to reclaim that lost time. Parents should have it for their family, if not to limit their children’s screen time, to at least show their kids (and maybe even themselves) how easily they can be wrapped up in the virtual world for hours, so at a young age they can develop the habits of self control so many people today do not have. Adults themselves should have it, should they find themselves distracted from their work or responsibilities. Moment will limit what they cannot on their own, and will show them where all the time they are claiming they don’t have has gone to. The paid version is worth every cent, and even using the free features acts as a real eye opener I would have never experienced otherwise, and I truly believe everyone should at least try this app, even if only a week. I hope that this app will allow you to beyond make up for the time taken you to read this. Thank you, and please try Moment.

An App to Track App Usage

It’s good to get a handle on how the phone can become a part your life.

Clunky and not turn-key

You have to take screenshots of your app usage. At least at the beginning. Also, if you use a sleep app, it marks that as time on my phone. When I woke up this morning It said I was already on my phone for 9 hrs. Lol. I guess if you are a phone junky, you could take the time to configure, but I probably won’t.
