Why no global leaderboard?

Whats the point of a leaderboard where you have to invite friends. A global leaderboard like what Duolingo has would be good. What if we have no friends or our friends never even use the app. Implement a new leaderboard system to further incentivize using Memrise and learning a new language.

Memrise links pictures/videos of people speaking new words-it sticks pretty quickly. Enjoyable!
First lesson wasn’t on them

It says that the first lesson is on them, but it wasn’t. Since I already used the web app, level 1 was already complete for me. That means I wasn’t allowed to try the app without subscribing to a paid plan.

I don’t usually write reviews for apps, but Memrise blew me away. I’m using it to learn Korean to speak with my wife’s family. I’ve tried Duolingo, Pimsleur, and Rosetta Stone in the past. But Memrise crushes all of them. The videos of real people, the animations putting words together, the game-ified “explore” mode which is like a scavenger hunt, and the super funny dubbing your voice over the videos all make learning the language sooo fun! I haven’t been able to put it down since I downloaded it. AND it’s totally worth the subscription.
Still not working

It’s been several months since the app stopped working and I couldn’t review. Went onto a forum online and everyone had the same problem saying “it is normal and they take a 2-3 months to fix it” it has been more than that, and here we are. Severely disappointed because this app is amazing when it works. And it helped my languages a ton.
