Full screen ads are out of control.

JimRoper

The app is unusable half of the time due to full screen apps that randomly capture the screen when reading an article. There is no way to dismiss them and at other times, the user is redirected to the App Store. With the horrible user experience on the mobile app and the inability to view the website without disabling basic pop up window blocking, it is no longer worth the trouble to view MDN content.

Ridiculous Ads

There are so many ads that they constantly load the entire time you're reading the article. Even after you've read the entire article and want to leave a comment, it still pops the keyboard down and is designed to get you to accidentally press the ads while you're trying to type on the keyboard. They also have had a bad plague lately of ads that just redirect the entire page without clicking on anything, and foce you to view some ad about how you won an iPhone or vacation >:( MacDailyNews are the worst app developers and the worst kind of journalists you will ever find because of their unacceptable "advertising" practices. Also, even if they removed all the ads, I can't login to leave comments like I used to be able to do, I have to enter my name and email every time. Pressing notifications doesn't take you to the article you selected, it just opens the app. And that is when you're lucky enough to even get notifications. Once in a while they'll stop for like a month, so I just say oh well and stop reading it at all until they fix the issue. ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. Fix it!

Terrible app developers

Notifications don't work with new iPhone 7 update and the app is just full of ads. They should just take this app off the store it's no good.

It's now abandonware . . .

. . . from a Mac and Apple focused website of all things. It is glitchy and buggy, and happens to have the most annoying advertising of all the apps. I understand they want to make money but they have also lost their values.

Good grief!

Now you have pop up video ads. Give me a break. I'll find my Apple news somewhere else. Sad. This used to be a great app.

Deleting it...obnoxious ads, overly political content

At one point, MDN was my go-to site for Apple news, and their app was decent. The site as a whole has become more and more political, obviously run by far-right fanatics who drool over Trump every chance they can manufacture. I could ignore that, but the ads on the app are completely obnoxious. While in the middle of reading an article, video ads will repeatedly pop up and take over your screen, without any touching of the screen on your part. Skip it. Just go to Macrumours, AppleInsider, or another site via browser and leave MDN for the far-right ad lovers.

Ads Make It Awful

The pop-up video ads are unacceptable. From now on I will only access MDN with a browser equipped with an ad blocker. I am deleting the app from my phone.

Avid reader; uninstalled app

I read the site daily. I am fed up with the app. Two things in particular: 1) repeatable crash any time you attempt to watch an embedded YouTube video in landscape. 2) bug that makes writing comments on articles nearly impossible as the input window deselects and jumps around every 5 seconds or so.

Virtually unusable

auramac

Ads, pop ups, obscure content, which often includes conservative political bias and viewpoints of Rush Limbaugh. App is unstable, often unable to use keyboard when posting comments, bounces back and forth. The screen becomes an obstacle course as ads appear in main focus forcing you to read content to the sides up and down while being interrupted by more as you scroll down feed. The experience is comparable to having a virus or being hacked. I'd give it a minus five star rating if I could. Update: 3/27/17. Remains possibly the worst app/page ever. Almost impossible to write and enter a comment, ads are like viruses sabotaging any semblance of usability. There has been no attempt to simplify or fix long-standing issues. Often crashes anyway which both defers from and contributes to the aggravation. How ironic that for all the so-called expertise in technology discussion, this app/page is such a mess.

Crash & Burn. Getting better. Fewer crashes. Just tried to post. Ha the app kept randomly stopping me from finishing. Moving me out of the comment box and unselected. Tapping right back in made it jump right back out. I give up. ? Deleted and installed again. Restarted and cleared app cache. No luck. Maybe MDN App doesn't play well with 10.3 It sure saved me some space by upgrading. ?? First Mac site or App I go to. But it's getting harder to keep it up. The ads are just to much. Ad blocker kicks you out if installed on macOS. I get it they need ads. But it's just to many. If they weren't flashing and blinking I might actually patronize them. And also the redirects!! That is so annoying to just get moved to the App Store showing me a game? I never wanted to see! So I just use the built in ad remover declutter feature. 3 ½ horizontal lines in the URL bar. . . Name of feature escapes me. But it's great when you need it. Both on iOS and macOS.
