Strange design choices

Everytime a new card comes up, the keyboard is up and blocks the word that you're supposed to translate. So you need to tap multiple times per card to close the keyboard, look at the word that needs translation, then open up the keyboard again. Lots of unnecessary taps, lots of friction.

Lingvist is an ideal way to build up both your vocabulary and useful phrases. The way it returns to words that you don’t know, and then gradually reduces the frequency of review as you demonstrate proficiency, allows you to focus on the words you need to learn the most. Graphs that show your growing level of fluency in the new language, and day by day performance, provide additional motivation to keep learning. It’s a remarkable app!

Lingvist is INCREDIBLE. Take it from someone who has learned three languages, all in different ways — Lingvist works. It loosely uses Pimsleur methods to get the learner to remember words, and I find that I can remember the words that I learn on Lingvist very easily. As if that weren’t enough, the app is spot on: supremely usable and well-designed. Plus, it’s free (for now), which is truly unbelievable. In short, download Lingvist!

I work at LAX and come in contact with people from all over the world but the majority are from France or other French speaking countries. I was introduced to this application by a French-Canadian customer who said it was the best he had sampled, needless to say he was correct 100%. I truly enjoy learning with this platform, it is very engaging and I look forward to spending time with my 100 daily cards. Slowly but surely I am progressing in française. Highly recommend this application.

This app is good but not great. It drills you on words over and over, but too many different words at a time. Also, you only see the word used in one sentence, rather than in a variety of sentences to help developing the nuance of the word. I’m not sure if I’m learning the word meaning or simply that in that sentences blank spot belongs that word. I find I’m learning more from DuoLingo and Pimsluer (and even Drops, though only for vocabulary, not sentences). I was really hoping I’d like this more, but I’d almost rather do boring Babbel than Lingvist. That said, lingvist is different than any other software and I keep it in my practice routine. But it’s like eating eggplant.
