Great, could use some work…

For starters, this app is pretty good - if you plan on spending some cash to use it. I usually use this app as reference for writing, it’s pretty useful. It’s better if you know how to read ひらがな first before using. I’d prefer if they would explain to us the on-yomi and kun-yomi for better teaching experience. I’d say it’s an O.K. app, but could be improved.

Great app but won’t accept my writing for certain kanji

I bought the full app and went to study but when I write on my iPad with my Apple Pencil the Kanji for “Week” or “Before” (前) it counts it as wrong. Please fix these bugs

Just a few tweaks from being perfect

I love this app and use it in conjunction with textbooks to learn the kanji. The writing detection is pretty good at enforcing stroke order and proportionality but will sometimes fail good kanji and accept errors. My biggest hope for the app is a function to reset selected kanji back to unlearned or favorite them so they come up more often. Additionally the app could be linked with some type of dictionary or other sites to load in examples of usage when selecting a kanji in the review spreadsheet. It would also be helpful to have a search function so one could find the kanji or vocabulary if jumping around during reviews. Still, as it stands this app is a very valuable resource!

This app is great

I'm actually learning Kanji with this app, from not knowing any to knowing several hundred. I'm self teaching Japanese and have found for my own learning style that knowing the Kanji helps me quite a bit vs just learning the word sounds. If you're trying to self teach, this app is best combined with learning the radicals. So I look up every word and Kanji on Jisho. I also combine it with other apps to learn grammar. I run through the practice several times a day and try to learn 1-2 new Kanji every day.

Make Onyomi More Clear

It would be super helpful for those who just started learning Japanese for the onyomi readings to be in Katakana to make it clear what is kunyomi/onyomi. Otherwise great learning app for Kanji!

Free version only teaches you 4 kanji???

Free version is basically useless. I thought it would let you go further before asking for payment but clearly i was wrong.

The Best Kanji App

If you want to learn kanji and how to write them this has to be one if the best. In the past 2 months I’ve been using the app daily and I can write all the characters up to N3 perfectly. All the readings and compounds and teachings have been imbedded into my brain too. This isn’t the best for vocabulary, but and vocabulary you see with the kanji you’ve learned will stick best. This is an amazing app and has helped me a bunch compared to wanikani. The best 10$!!!!!!!!!!

Love this app. I was going in complete circles with my Kanji learning for N4, this helped.

I knew N5 level Kanji, but wanted a more structured approach to N4 to make it easier on myself. After trying out the first lesson or two for free, I bought the N4 lesson alone ($2 for all this is a steal). I limit myself to like 5 or so lessons a day so I don’t get overwhelmed. I use it with my iPad mini and Apple Pencil and it works like a charm. Some issues I’ve had (that have been noted in other reviews): -The writing box sometimes doesn’t register some strokes correctly and it’s kind annoying. -Some of these definitions aren’t the best for the words/a bit confusing/vague because they have multiple meanings! -No example sentences not even short ones. -Kanji compound reviews - like them, but I wish some of them were written together if both characters were taught in close lessons! Pros: -Lovely progression of kanji and words through the lessons. Quite logical. -Custom review is very nice for when I wanna drill certain characters for extra practice! -Offline use is super convenient! -Affordable! You can literally just buy the level you need, you don’t have to buy them all. Also, if you wanna complain about this app being paid, go on Google and use free resources :). -The review process is great. -Seeing the kanji you’ve covered in different colors depending on how well you’ve learned/reviewed them is nice, seeing all the green is such a motivator haha. I’m halfway through the N4 level and only started using this about…early/mid-October! -It’s a breeze writing kanji on paper after being made to review them a billion times on this app lol! Highly recommend this app.

Effective, easy to use, and makes learning fun!

I’ve been using this app daily for about two months and am so impressed at how useful and well-designed it is! It’s very customizable, so you can focus on reading, writing, or both. The short lessons make it feel a bit like a game, and learning is rewarding and fun as you see your vocabulary list grow and change from red to green. It’s a great way to learn vocabulary alongside the “Japanese!” app by the same creator, which teaches grammar and sentence structure.

Good for good ol’ rote memorization. The tried and true method.
