Life Saver

Went to Tokyo on business speaking no Japanese. App was easy to use just dropping a pin where you want to be picked up and shows where the taxi is in relation to you. I Always came within 2 min of the estimated arrival time. All the taxis had charging plugs for phones and all drivers were awesome. 100% recommend!

It works!

App is works fine, though the English is a little strange some times. Good that you can pay with credit card through it (most competitors don't offer this)

Does not disclose fees

llihgdots

This app does not disclose the additional dispatch fee you are charged to use the app. (Upon further study I can see the disclosure is hidden off-screen in a section the UI gives no hint is scrollable). This is the same fee taxis historically have charged in Japan for telephone reservations. (I only finally saw a disclaimer in the app description after writing the review!) It is ridiculous for a company to charge you for reducing their labor costs and improving their efficiency in customer flow. (In actuality I assume this app is just a middle-man business and the calls are still made.) It's like a bank charging for ATMs or online banking (and they actually do the latter for business accounts in Japan!) I can walk 150 meters to the main road to flag a taxi much faster than one can be delivered with no such fee and this is so much more the case for visitors to Tokyo. The driver was also unable to figure out how to get to our apartment, was late, and had to call to get directions in Japanese as we stood in the rain. There is no obvious route options in the hailing process. As 75% of Tokyo taxi drivers know their way around the city worse than this foreigner who doesn't drive, the ability to provide destinations and preferred routes to their GPS units would save customers time and money. In our case, the taxi driver chose a route even I could have easily improved on. I didn't bother once my wife had already approved. The niche payment service sign up is onerous. The security of online data in Japan is notoriously poor with insiders often selling data to organized crime so caveat emptor—especially if the implementation of the "secret code" is any indication of this company's idea of security. The secret code you chose at sign up as a kind of PIN pops up in the reservation window in very large print along with instructions to tell it to the driver when they ask. My driver never asked and I never told but I can't say I blame him because it is completely perfunctory. If someone has stolen a phone, this does nothing to stop them from using the registered credit card for free taxi rides since the PIN is provided by the app! Nor can I see how it would stop any other form of fraud. Like I said, completely perfunctory. I fear if this is the best Tokyo taxi monopolies can offer, they will soon meet the same fate Japanese mobile phone makers did when their "Galapagos" phones were crushed by Apple. Uber may have a tough battle with "regulatory capture" (to speak euphemistically) but there's no contest in terms of actual implementation.

Great taxi APP

SuddenSunshine

Great English interface. Easy to use.

Text required for e-pay

Okay but most people visiting will have data only SIM... no texting

English friendly app and very easy to set up and use

Samuraise13

Have used this app several times now to hail a taxi to my house. The estimated time to arrival is fairly accurate. Be sure to move the 'pick me up here' location to the correct street outside your home (even if address changes). Would be nice if they would call once arrived but not a big deal. Setup requires some Japanese inputting in katakana. No need to set up the net pay.

Doesn't let you set up with a US SMS or cell

Kskail

Tried to set up with a US cell. Requires SMS to set up. Put in US cell starting with 0101 but says already registered. Tried with my wife's cell and same response. Please revise to permit registration without SMS message.

Must have app...

The Shipper

I'm an expat living in Nagoya. It is simple and easy to use once setup. I use it frequently.

us cell phone

travelgrl123

Have a good US roaming plan for Japan and want to use my phone and US cell phone number. Can't get app to work with a US cellphone number. So pointless for travelers.

First time using, great app

Ordered the taxi with ease. Driver arrived on time and, as always, driver was friendly and taxi was clean. Used Apple Pay to pay automatically, but an option to pay in cash would be wonderful as well
