Great PDF manager, horrible editor

Meshuggah003

This app is the go to PDF manager for Army aviation. It has a lot of room for improvement in annotations, markups, and use of the Apple Pencil. Hope to see these improvements in the future.

An unacceptable user experience

iPhonerarooni

I think I’ve had every version of this app since it was first released. I’m an academic and reading/annotating PDFs fills much of my day. What’s unacceptable about GoodReader? (1) The user-interface is atrocious, requires constant, cumbersome interactions to do anything, and is non-customizable in any meaningful way. (For God’s sake, let me pick what the Apple Pencil does when I use it. Don’t make me constantly hit save after every interaction. Let me pick which widgets I want displayed on the screen.) GoodReader could be used in a CS or HCI class as an example of how not to design a GUI. It really is that clumsy and badly designed. (2) After all this time, there is still no setting to ignore annotation input from anything other than an Apple Pencil on an iPad. Your fingers and palm will constantly draw on your document. Utterly astonishing this basic feature, which other apps have had for years, is still missing here. Its best features are its sync capabilities, but the glaring failures in user-interactions can’t be overlooked. This is now an app of last resort and best avoided if you need to interact with PDFs more often than once a month.

Extortion

Used to be a great app, but now it looks like they have taken away features that I assume you can only access now via an extremely expensive pro plan. I can’t even undo or change the color of highlighting anymore. Since the highlight function is most of what I use this app for, guess I’m finding a different app. Or just printing and using a regular highlighter.

App good, customer service so bad!

CLTEL

The one star is for customer service. The app has been wonderful for the last couple years, but a couple months ago I began experiencing error crashes. I emailed my error crash reports every time and also sent separate emails to customer service. My first couple of emails were responded to, but then all of a sudden responses stopped. I continued to email, but have heard nothing for weeks now. Unfortunately, I continue to experience the crashes and so forced to move on to another option for pdf viewing, filing, annotating, etc.

Been using GoodReader for years and love it.

Samwithauri

I work with a lot of manuals for my job. I find GoodReader very useful for annotating my pdf file with notes to reference back to. I also use it on electrical drawings were I can color the line to follow different circuits. I also share annotated drawings through email with Co workers. The notes can be seen in Adobe if they don’t have GoodReader. Worth the money.

Good reader for good

Great application

Still the best

GoodReader is still the app I rely on most to use the iPad as a professional tool. Without GoodReader, I am not sure I could still consider the iPad as a very portable, almost full-strength computer. There are other very good apps which have become available since I found GoodReader many years ago, and more and more of them now perform one or another GoodReader function as well as or almost as well as GoodReader. But there is still nothing like GoodReader itself. Even if GoodReader never upgrades again, please do not become discontinued altogether. For one thing, I would not know how to organize and keep track of the tens of thousands of documents I now have on the iPad. I rely on GR for so much more as well. Thank you to the developers.

Worthless

Morandia

Can’t even edit a txt file, although description said you could. . What a waste of money. Wish I could get my $ back

Better value than Adobe’s pdf editor

E.Frye

Adobe’s editor app costs roughly $120 per year and in regards to primary functions of a PDF editor it offers nothing more than what goodreader does for a much cheaper price.

Not up to its old standard

BookWyrm67

I truly love this app and have been using it for years. However, the last update has left the app very glitchy. It’s, currently, extremely difficult to highlight any passages. Also, swiping from page to page has become difficult. This, even after I rebooted my iPad. Hope they fix it soon so I can raise my review rating.
