Ecoute

“Ecoute Is The Best Music Player For iOS. Period.” - MacStories.
Category Price Seller Device
Music $0.99 Julien Sagot iPhone, iPad, iPod

Ecoute for iOS is an alternative player using your existing musical library. It sports a clean and elegant interface, revolves around gestures to help you control your music quickly, and integrates Twitter, Facebook, and Last.fm so you can share your favorites tracks.
It enhances your control over the music by adding more options like 'shuffle by albums', 'play next' and 'add up next'.

Moreover, Ecoute offers the ability to manage the now playing queue. Add songs on the go and reorganize your tracks with ease!

The user interface automatically switches into night mode as the brightness of the screen decreases. You can also force the night mode if the default UI doesn't fit you.

Ecoute supports AirPlay and iTunes Match. Metadata like Play counts, and last played dates are synchronised.
Available filters are Artists, Albums, Composers, Genres, Playlists, Compilations, Songs, and Audiobooks.

** IMPORTANT **:
Music.app needs to be installed for Ecoute to works properly.

The most beautiful music player

This app plays songs that I forgot I owned on my iPhone! I truly LoVE this app and highly recommend it!!!!

ecoute Was The Best but now needs lots of work
American Primitive

Avoid. Apple Music is now better than ecoute, not because it added features but because ecoute has not fixed bugs which piled up through iOS updates. ecoute is uncommunicative on these issues and it is not clear whether it is still being maintained. Ecoute was the only great alternative to Apple Music during the decade of disintegration of the iOS Apple Music app. Now, the Apple Music App is just barely good enough for the job and ecoute’s better features seldom function correctly. Sadly you need to start and stop the Apple Music app at times to keep ecoute working. Developer is non-communicative and there is no way to know if it is still under support, let alone active development. If ecoute returns to its former glory I will be the very first to restore it to five stars. Until then the free Apple Music app is a better alternative. Hopefully ecoute will address the bugs which I and others have reported but I doubt it with no developer response.

Love this app
rallycar27

I use this app all the time for music playback. I hope the developer continues to maintain the app with future iOS releases because I don’t know what I would do without it. The interface is so much better than Apple’s default Music app.

No longer works
Dabbwom

The app no longer works on iPhone.

Yes.

If you hate apple’s incessant advertisement of it’s own worse version of Pandora and Spotify, this app is for you. Other reviews report bugs, but I have not experienced any.

What happened?
Level-Headed

I used Ecoute for a long time, but an apparent update has created a major problem. When the app is opened, your music library is displayed. I typically had it displayed by artist, and all the albums by that artist would be displayed by tapping on the artist. Then you chose the album you wanted. The problem is that after selecting an album, I can no longer go back to the previous screen if I decide to listen to a different album. I have to force close the app and then reopen it. As much as I do not like the Apple Music app, at least it is not missing this important feature.

Great design, but has some functionality issues
Mac Obsessed

I love the design and utility of the app. My biggest problem is that adding songs to the queue or to the play next position restarts the song that is currently playing, making it less than enjoyable for building playlists on the fly. If this were fixed, it would be 5 stars.

Just great

I don't require much more from a music player. Plain and simple while being easy to use. Haven't checked if there's lyrics support? And an update with a dark theme would be good.

Good Alternative, but a Little Buggy
Yuki_Hotaru

Like so many others, I grew tired of Apple’s music app. In my search to find something that would work with my iTunes library, I found Ecoute. The design is nice and the app is fairly simple to use. However, I find that the playback buttons, especially play and pause are buggy. I have issues trying to play and pause a song. I also noticed that the time elapsed bar doesn’t seem to move while a song is playing. Still beats Apple Music though.

I wish it worked...
c-k-

None of my music plays. I push the play button and nothing happens. Other music apps work but I would prefer the simple interface of this one. Oh well.
