The New Best Browser

Shufei

Hot diggity! This is something very special from the whiz kids at DuckDuckGo. Many interested in basic privacy have used their search engine for years, watched it grow and become a worthy rival in completeness to anything offered by the evil “don’t be evil” corporations. But after a long hiatus in which it was not very usable, DuckDuckGo have created a wonderful new browser for web privacy. The GUI is adorable, one of the most concise, clear, and complete I’ve ever seen. The ease and transparency of the interface is bested only by the apparent competence of its blocking practices. And yet, unlike some tracking blockers, I find it renders pages quite well and without odd gaps. With a single tap on a site rating icon, DuckDuckGo tells you at a glance what is wrong with the site. Go to FB, Google, or Twitter when you boot this up to see exactly what evil they are up to. It can’t be made clearer, both by the D rating, or these simple explanations what evil these sites are up to. If you’ve ever gone grumbly while wading through a site’s meally mouthed, weasly fine print on their user agreement or privacy page, you can’t but gasp with gratitude to see how DuckDuckGo cuts through the red tape and bull pucky to give you the real scoop. DuckDuckGo May very well be a gate crasher with this one. Not all of us have been gleefully sold on the surveillance economy and the brave new world of fawning subservience to Big Data. DuckDuckGo is proving it can be done right. Good going, ducks! Keep it up, please!

Essential app

In today's society, this app is a must with all the news about privacy leaks and tracking. I used to use Google exclusively for all my searches but have slowly switched all my devices to Duck for searches. I'm still adjusting to it but so far so good. I like the simple layout and their commitment to privacy.

No longer works with iPhone 5C

This latest update, 7.2, will not install on iPhone 5C. I am on 7.1 and won't delete it as it is not available anymore that I can see.

Great app

I was a big fan of scroogle but I have been using DuckDuckGo for some time now. I'm glad to see an iOS app for my iPhone. Update: 3/28/2018 really like the UI update and they finally fixed the speed issue.

I want to like it

I really want to like this app. I commend DuckDuckGo for putting out a privacy-focused solution for iOS. I just have one major and one minor gripe. Major: Page renders are painfully slow. Loading sites feels like it takes forever. For this reason, I’m still using Safari with ad blockers. Minor: The activity/share functionality is inconvenient and limited. Move the share button to the bottom control bar for easy access. Also adding 1Password integration is a must for me.

Needs an iPad version

Good app for my iphone, but I'd also like to use it on my ipad. Overall, I really like this company and I'm glad I can replace google with their service.

Does everything I need

MikeG222

I just need a simple browser with bookmarks. This app fits the bill. I love the privacy protection and the privacy grade information the app provides for each site. It helps me avoid sites that are not trustworthy. This app is very usable too. I love the simple design. It wasn’t hard to give up Safari and switch to this app. Great job! Thanks for giving us a great Google alternative!

Dropped support for iPad 4 running iOS 10

Was a great privacy browser until DDG dropped support for my device. I'll miss this app.

Good but not best

I have used DDG for a couple of years. Great search app and I’ve seen their improvements over the years. The latest version for iOS, however, needs to be cleaned up a bit. I like the flame button to clear search history but DDG developers should add a feature to allow the app to clear searches and return to its home page when one quits rather than leaving that last search as it’s home page when one opens the app again. It is time consuming to have to type over the last search to do a new search especially on such a tiny iPhone screen.
