Great app! Only thing I miss about Safari is the reader view. Some pages are a little small and need manual zooming and shuffling around. All in all though, I like the new browser! ?

almost perfect

Been using DDG for years, don’t use anything else. Was really disappointed to see social media buttons on my favorite tech site Ars. When I use DDG (downloaded directly from your site) through Safari I don’t get the social media buttons. I have 3 ad blockers and 1 vpn on my phone which kills the social media garbage. Although, your blockers do catch some trackers that mine don’t. I will continue to use this for a while, but just on certain sites. Would love to see a tip jar for those of us who are so inclined to support privacy. Love the “die in a fire” graphics, please use it to kill all social media garbage. Otherwise, can’t say enough good things about DDG. Thanks.

UI now is awkward to use. App only partly works. All my other apps work flawlessly. Google must have bought this app. ATTENTION: I deleted the app and reinstalled the app. ALL IS WELL NOW.

Needs work

No true home button. Can’t set homepage. Some pages don’t fully load amd just go into loop. Some pop ups get thru like the Amazon you’re the lucky prize winner popup

Big Fan, but...

Won't let me update to the latest version; says it's not compatible with my (5c). That's OK except for the Red Notification to update won't go away. ☹️ UPDATE: Although the developer responded, he didn't answer my immediate need: If I can't update (which is fine because the older version still works), please fix the red notification; make it go away!

My default browser/update!!

I am highly passionate about this app for all the obvious reasons, and just wanted to share some more thoughts if people read these and consider downloading it. Many trackers still slip through to our phones... from all the apps we use and searching within sites- which I’m realistic about..but you just hit your fire button and it goes away. -For example, one of my vpn/ additional blockers blocked over 5000 trackers this week and if I didn’t have DDG and several other VPNs in place- the real number would likely be well over 20 thousand.. and if I were unprotected and unaware like the majority of people still searching without any of these methods in place.. Likely using chrome or another top 2 search app? the number could be well closer to 50 thousand and beyond. In a week. People wonder why their phones glitch etc... But most people just aren’t aware of this. The information is slowly getting out there and it’s refreshing to see people being more diligent about protecting their rights to privacy. What also amazes me, is if I need to search within another site which I earlier referenced.. like I use”!google ...(whatever I’m searching)” ..if I don’t soon clear my safari history- my entire internet on my phone will get so bogged down and slow. —again, Meaning, thousands of cookies and trackers are embedded in every single site we use 24/7.. attaching to our digital selves like virtual parasites — -So when people say DDG ‘crashes’ I really believe it’s more their internal blockers having some battle with the cookies and trackers that are just track all of us 24/7 the second we have any online presence from our phones. I notice it only on the highest trafficked popular new sites etc.. Which makes sense. *side tip works for me: anyone who has complained about crashing....Try clearing your search history within the safari app on settings like every other day. It takes two seconds and works wonders to enhance the usability of this app. 2nd thing. I’m always baffled at Anyone scoffing at privacy and the importance of companies like this— who are even willing to believe in a mission statement like theirs.. it is such a rarity today. We all can’t be naive and assume everything isn’t potentially tracked anyways, however this app and company, even if a small step, is a big one in the right direction. It is a breath of fresh air, and a much needed one. DDG, along with proper vpns are really a necessary step we all need to be more prudent about security, because trackers are only getting further developed daily and security and privacy is way behind the curve— but platforms like this are at least trying to protect the end user. And I appreciate that and say thank you. -We can’t undervalue how important this truly is, so when people complain about something not loading as quickly, that’s a small price compared to when I had chrome for everything, had no clue about any of this...my phone crashed on average like 6 times a day.. And id be blaming it on all the recent apps I had used.. - bad reviews for things like that remind me of yelpers who love their meal but leave a 1 star for the restaurant not having a restroom etc. People need to be more realistic in their expectations and I agree with what someone else said in terms of a tipping or donations option for DDG. -If this company is really as altruistic as they seem to be, they need more support to scale to what everyone’s ‘google’ expectations are. Personally, I’m fine exactly how the app is now. For me, DDG is still like a diamond in the rough and I don’t want everyone knowing about it because that’s when I fear the mission statements always start to get compromised. So I hope this beautiful and brilliant gem DDG I’ve found just keeps doing exactly what they’re doing. Trying to make the web and online search world a better and more ethical place for the end user and their personal data. Phew! **** original review: I am hesitant to review as I don’t like giving away this secret lol I don’t want it scaling to be like google but I believe now it is necessary for people not to have such highly curated bubbles. I of course love google and use it from time to time when I need instant news updates. Duck duck go gets better and better and it’s articles and results are growing daily. It’s interesting because sometimes on google certain sites won’t open with my vpn but duck duck go will always work. I just set my dad up! Thanks for all the great work!

I love it, but...

DuckDuckGo seems to have removed 32 bit processor compatibility from the app. It will not update on my iPad 4. C'mon people. I installed you so I wouldn't have to deal with Google. Their stuff still works and updates on this device. Please do likewise.

No longer support iPhone 5c

Why does the latest update not support iPhone 5c?

Very slick, convenient — private

The new interface is kind of like Firefox Focus — an app specializing in private browsing — but adds bookmarks and other ease-of-use features I really appreciate to the always awesome DDG search. I find myself using this app a lot. And the “clear all” animation is addictive. ;-) My wish list has just one item: An “Open in background tab” option on a long press so I don’t have to immediately go to the page overview and switch back to where I was to open more tabs. This would be particularly useful on a news site, say, where you want to skim stories and open interesting ones for later use. (I don’t want to “Add to reading list” and switch to Safari for this purpose — unless you’re telling me that Safari is as secure and private as DDG. Is it?)
