February update: seems to have stopped crashing.

Egadzooks!

Another update and still can’t comment through the app. Newest update seems to have fixed freezing issue, but now crashes more often. Also seems to be draining battery quickly. Another update: Seems like CNET is adding bugs with each update just like Apple has been doing. App now randomly freezes. Update: What happened to being able to leave comments in the app? Update to latest update: Stories are loading! Yay! Hope it stays that way. Will the stories not loading issue ever be fixed? The app is almost useless. Latest update is buggy. Stories don’t load, so I’ve been using Safari to read Cnet. It’s too bad that it seems not all stories show up in Safari. This used to be a great app, but they recently added ads right in their list of stories. This makes the ads look like articles that you might want to read. Their articles are getting overpopulated with ads as well. I understand they need to earn income, but this is very annoying. Other than that, their coverage of technology news is very good. They could use a proofreader, though.

No more Apple Byte? No more Brian Tong? No more CNET!

Inexplicable and inexcusable CNET got rid of their most popular assets! Bye CNET! Will return when Brian Tong and the Apple Byte return. C ya!

CNet may lose money when on a website clock throughs occur: affiliated disclosure.

@DreadIron

I am still wrapping my head around their affiliated disclosure. It appears that its a disclosure obfuscating yellow journalism but that’s been repurposed to the vocabulary of the unwashed as Fake News. Yeah, I look around and send it to Hell w/ ¾ of the paid apps no longer supported sold in the AppStore which will rocket which if you are paying attention to the actual releases. So, it’s nothing wrong with the hardware it was built to an architecture initially intended for obsolescence that is to say before 2008 64-bit architecture and later multi-core processors were the standard but one doesn’t readily find the actual architecture in tech specs of new products boldly disclosed. Draw your own conclusions; and, then think about it again and the actual currency consumptive practices and policies but you’re not likely to see this review and Apple gear head may but having your attention what about that AppleCare degradation of actual value and integrity that is really something.

So...

ImmortalSolace

I’ve had this app for years and enjoyed it daily since I first got it. Now there was an update and I have to say that I extremely dislike how there are pop-up ads that frequent the thing so much that you cannot even read through a full article without getting interrupted. Why did you just kill your app with this horrible horrible thing?!? Take off video pop up adds or I have to not recommend this anymore to people. I’d give negative stars on this one if I could.

Ads

NickF85

I never rate an app. But the advertisements continually auto play. The app is worthless now.

First time rating any app

RoR_King

UPDATE 3/30/18 Timeout issues are back. Just like the first time around I’ve rated this app. No more updates. This app doesn’t deserve more than 1 star. UPDATE 3/9/18 Developer reached out to me. Asked if I could update my review based on the improvements has been made since I wrote my first review. The timeout issues seems to be fixed. Overall definitely faster. However I still do not like the design of this new app. Still feels like a downgrade to me. As the title suggests I never rated any apps before. However I got so frustrated with the new CNET upgrade I’ve decided write something. Perhaps I can get my voice heard. The new upgrade is more like a downgrade compared to the older version. It is slow, buggy, and content loading seems to time out constantly. This app used to be my favorite to catch up with the news. Well that’s no longer the case. It’s a shame.

So far so good

I rely upon CNET reviews and I have always benefited from the advice. Easy APP to navigate.

From Great To Garbage

Br1g1t

This redesigned CNET app is garbage. For over a decade, CNET was the place for me to get my tech news. Once I started using the app on iOS a few years ago, it became my go-to tech news app. I would use it multiple times per day, every day. Now, I use it possibly once a week and that just reminds me why I need to delete it. It is completely useless. You can’t find anything you want to read or view, you can’t jump directly to content you’re interested in. You can’t go directly to a video series you like to watch, etc, etc! We don’t need some futuristic design that breaks functionality. We just need a simple, basic, standards-based app like you’ve had in the past that worked just fine. Fix this mess of an app or I’m moving on for good!

Very interesting indeed....

AllisOK

They r very patient about putting ads where ever they can.
