NO IN SYNC

mas90guru ct

I used Byword for a rather large writing project on my iPad. For some strange reason it constantly displays “NOT IN SYNC” and I cannot manually get it to sync via iCloud. Yeah, I guess blame iCloud. But for this type of money I think there may be better options where you don’t have to be concerned that Sync is broken.

Possibly the greatest writing app for iOS

Rahil627

I first tested Plaintext 2 which is quite amazing, it being especially free, and I still have it for when Byword is being unfriendly. But I quickly updated to Byword because I was doing heavy writing: philosophy on my iPhone! It is quite indeed the premium writer app linked to Dropbox (and other stuff), old default eye-friendly theme (color, font selection, etc.), undo button, little keyboard shortcuts, good printing, good conflict chooser, made for markdown although I mostly just use it for text. Problems are mostly with Dropbox syncing with the file folder thingy. I feel I get more conflicts than I should, and though easy to choose one, there is no text merger. That file folder menu is custom, non iOS, minimal and pretty like the application, but I feel needs just a little more bug updating. Another major problem is with large text files; Byword slows down considerably, making typing sluggish even on an iPhone 5, and this is why I need Plaintext as a backup. Or else, I have to cut my text files. Anyway, still my main writer app. Used with Voice Dream for reading .

No longer syncs with Dropbox

WriterJamie

Gives error “failed to load information about this folder” when attempting to sync with Dropbox now. Can’t access any of my documents any longer. Problem exists both on my iPhone and iPad. iCloud appears to have the same problem.

great app but in app purchase broken

sjamesmccarthy

this is a great app and I have beenhusing it for about a year now. I finally decided to premium upgrade and unfortunately it doesn't work despite apple will charge you. the developer is also unresponsive. I recommend this app but do not upgrade to premium right now. apple refunded my charge.

Broken app, developer doesn't care

Muhammad Saleem

This app and particularly Dropbox and iCloud sync have been broken for ages and the developer does not care and is completely unresponsive to emails or tweets. Do not give this developer any money for a shoddy, broken app. I recommend you buy Editorial, 1Writer, or Drafts, which are all great and continually improved and developed.

Great Markdown App

Dr. K. L. Rohm

I have been looking for a great markdown editor for some time through the App Store. Integrations are impressive, but what is lacking is a word count. That's all I'd like to see implemented and this app is perfect.

it crashes

SvandexUS

When I open a file that is larger than 500KB, it crashes. Why cant it open that file? You can check this by import the CppCoreGuidelines.md file which is hosted in github.com/isocpp/cppcoreguideline

Writing actual books? Don't waste your money.

Christophxr

I wrote a review a few years ago explaining how this doesn't open large documents... at all. It just force quits. Years later—that is, presently—having completely forgotten about that little review and having re-discovered and re-downloaded this app, I come to say it still doesn't open book-length documents even on the iPad Pro running the latest iOS (9.2.1). Wow.

Byword it's nice

Byword must go forward than iA Writer

Still supported??

WriterJamie

Not even sure this app is still supported. Dropbox no longer works with it. Emails to support for assistance have not been answered. Trust in this company is zero.
