Solid writing and syncing

Scott Wiersdorf

Such an elegant and simple markdown authoring tool—and with great syncing support with several cloud providers. The Mac OS app clinches it.

Don't Know What I Did Without It

Dolce’s Mom

I absolutely love Byword!! I am a fairly prolific blogger and post on numerous sites. Byword makes it so much easier and faster to do my thing. I also love that I can write a few words, leave the app on one device and come back to it on another without missing a beat. Highly recommend this app.

No way to make tables

darkgoob

Says it supports tables but there is no way to make a table. So sad! Why did I buy this...?

Classy markdown editor performs well

bill_in_az

Agree with those who complement ByWord for its simplicity and features. It's a bargain. I have not experienced any of the problems mentioned by other reviewers but I'm running the latest IOS on an iPad pro.

Pretty much the best

Out of all the markdown and note taking apps that I've tried this one was the best.

Ok but has annoying duplicate folders

Elliott-C

The product is ok, but randomly creates duplicate folders of already existing folders. Ha done this since I got the app Stahl years ago. I'm afraid to delete the duplicates because it might delete what's in the remaining folder. Informed developer and hoped for a fix but it hasn't happened. Also it world be nice if device searches included results from Byword. Also would like to set the sort order per folder rather than have a single setting that sorts all folders the same way.

Great Mac App, pretty good iOS app

bikemike

Byword is my go-to distraction free writing app on the Mac and I used it on iOS for a while— but unfortunately the slow Dropbox syncing led me to explore other solutions for iOS. It seems like updates this year might have fixed this so hopefully it’s better now. I had Byword configured for a Dropbox folder that I use for journal entries and it has a couple hundred markdown files in it plus two sub folders with some text, markdown and a couple of old rtf (rich text) files in them. When I opened up Byword it would hang on ‘Downloading items’ or ‘Syncing Items’ for minutes and it made me nervous to open recent files and create possible conflicts in my Dropbox. That was a big blocker when I just wanted to open the app and start writing. I recently reinstalled the app and also removed the rtf files from this Dropbox folder (just in case) and things seem to be better— fingers crossed.

The Best for Writing

Fugygfyggfygfc

I took a leap of faith on this app a few years ago and it was worth every penny. The best feature is the synchronization between different devices. If you are looking for something decent to help with your writing buy it.

Worse app

LaOa

I began using byword last year to jot down writing ideas. I would sometimes write articles or different things i wanted to work on. A few months ago i logged on and all my work disappeared. Emailed to ask if there was some kind of update and have received no response. There are other ways to jot down notes.

no problems

My Byword app lives on my 2nd generation iPad and does precisely what I require: opens to a blank page in a snap for note-taking outside of the office, saves and dates the notes even if I forget to name them, and makes it easy to email the notes to myself when the interview is over. I've never learned Markdown, though I still plan to, and have had little trouble doing what I need to do. It's always been stable. Nice app.
