Auto Unlock

App works well, BUT auto unlock has been unreliable on both our homes iPhones over last 5 - 6 months. 13 Max Pro is a little better than 12 Max Pro for auto unlock, BUT both have been bad recently for reliability.


So easy

The lock and the app are both so user-friendly and very easy to set up! It walks you through the steps of set up so easily and efficiently. Using the app has been fantastic!


Just one drawback

Been using for 2+ years at multiple properties, so overall would recommend. The one frustrating drawback is when you try to update entry codes and change the dates/times for guests…..it sometimes doesn’t “save changes” and other times it changes the status for the guest to “always” and then the code reads “none”. I have to literally double/triple check every change because this has happened multiple times and as a result, our guests code doesn’t work upon their arrival. To end on a positive note, their support staff is very helpful and the hardware has held up well. Just need to work on these app glitches :-)


App stopped working with lock

Can’t connect the app and the lock after it suddenly stopped working. It wasn’t that good anyway, but now it is completely non-functional.

App is sometimes temperamental but usually works. Worst part is the bad user design. I have one house with two locks. WHY do I have to select my house every time and WHY can’t you put multiple locks/statuses on a single page? Just another example of software developers who don’t actually use the software developed.


App Broken for Months

While I had generally been extremely happy with the company and its customer service in the past, the app being broken for months is unacceptable and beyond infuriating.

The lock’s auto lock is a nice/convenient feature to have. I’ve had mines for about 2 months. It works 60-70% of the time. As of recently or I simply didn’t notice. If the lock has a delayed reaction after you enter the home my lock has been unlocking my door minutes after I arrived. It’s set to auto lock after a couple minutes so it does lock back but unlocking the door after I locked it behind me is not ok. Imagine you come home late. Unlock the door by key and lock it back. Lay down for a second and out the blue your door unlocks by itself because it just noticed your close by. If I’m not paying attention for a short while this smart lock leaves my house vulnerable.

Auto Unlock is broken

They have broken the Auto-Unlock feature for the entire family as of the end of summer 2022. We are all on the latest versions and have had August Locks since 2017. Today I can say they are garbage.


It works… but so much frustration with UX

I rarely write reviews but I’m posting this one in the hopes that a product manager at August might read and address some of these frustrating pain points: First, there is no clear path to removing an old lock. You need to do a factory reset according to docs, but for a truly unresponsive lock that is not possible. Second, when you rename locks, the name does not update until you quit and restart the app. Not at all an intuitive experience. Third, the process of giving users keypad access is just weird, there is no natural path from a user — you must find it through the keypad settings. In general the app and lock works but I have wasted time with it to achieve basic things.
