App keeps on losing connection with wemo devices

latitud129

The app is constantly losing connection with the wemo switches. You can use them with Alexa but not with the app designed to use them.

Solid app for controlling water heater pump

Soren in San Jose

We've had a WeMo Insight hooked up to the recirculation pump of our water heater for at least a year now, and this app has been our connection to on-demand hot water (without letting much run down the drain). The critical auto-off feature has been perfect for our use case and we've found the notifications of when the pump is turned to have been solid. We use this app on both iPad and iPhone. One rare issue is not detecting the device and needing a refresh with the clearly-marked refresh button. Even more rarely, we have to force quit the app to get it to find our WeMo.

The devices seem great, but the app is the wemo downfall.

I have many of the Wemo light switches and outlet switches. All connect to the wifi readily and reconnect when the network requires reboots. Note that you do need a good WiFi network to assure signal coverage for your entire home. I have one switch that is about 100 ft away, with two walls between it and the router, that works with no issues; obviously you could use an access point or a distributed network, but a high performance router does the job for me. BUT... the wemo iOS application does not manage the switches well at all; connection is very random and completely unreliable. The application often failed to update firmware as well when a new switch was installed - it would finally, in a few cases a couple of days, note the need to update. This is not near as annoying as the application simply losing connection to the devices completely. Until Belkin can resolve and correct the wemo application management and connection problems, I personally cannot recommend making the commitment to use the wemo brand smart devices. The devices then are no more than a very expensive manual switch. Several of my associates have gone with other solutions based on my experiences. Although I’m not a networking expert, I am a very experienced engineer and typically choose only the best hardware solutions for all my computer and network systems; I obviously made a bad call many months ago now in going with the Belkin wemo line of decices. The most significant problems I have observed have occurred since August to September of 2017. Perhaps changes were made at that time to cause even less reliability. By then I already had a significant commitment to the wemo set of devices because I already had 10 plus. Belkin needs to pay very close attention to, and act upon, the many comments and reviews noting these types of problems. Because of the depth of commitment already made in wemo on my end, I recently decided to try the wemo bridge to see if I could remove the need for the wemo application and found that the bridge is unreliable as well. It would connect to the router and network just fine, the wemo app recognized its presence, but the Apple home app, when recognizing the device would then fail to connect after several tries, I unplugged it and shelved it chocking it up to just one more connectivity based shortfall. What is very interesting is that all devices, without fail, can be pinged on the LAN, always - showing they are all successfully connected to the router. The wemo application is just extremely unreliable, which again makes this brand of smart home devices very costly when they simply become dumb switches. I do need to comment that the wemo help and support folks have tried to help resolve the issues, but the process has been long and so far, limited in fixing the issues. Problems have just moved from one aspect to another. I would highly suggest selecting another brand with far less application and access-related failure reviews. I won’t mention specific brands, but I’ve already started to convert to another with none of these issues observed, all the while hoping that somehow, these wemo iOS app problems will be resolved. I will gladly update this review if and when they truly are resolved!

Buggy

Great customer support but it would be nice if the software worked properly from the beginning.

Ok app but missing one very important feature

Hghjgfhgvgjfhc

This is a great app but wemo needs to tell us all one thing before we buy their switches or app. At the present time you can only control the switches on one single WiFi network. You can’t control switches in multiple locations. I live in a rural area with two different WiFi networks and I can’t control switches on two different networks. I would give 5 stars if this feature was in the app.

Good App but not reliable

I’ve been using this app for over a year and while I like it it’s got a ways to go as far as reliability.
