But I still don't understand the pipe sequence translating into the geometric shapes solution.

I had absolutely no idea how you get geometric shapes from the pipes like a previous post said. *SPOILER ALERT* I did find the solution on a game forum. #1 pipe piece.....look for the plank with pipes that starts with that pipe. Trace the order of pipes out on the door mentally. Or take a screen shot and trace with your finger to get shape.
