New Format is awful

12/28/2019 I believe this so-called new and improved app was released three months and the functionality of print like view displayed in a browser still has not improved enough to be acceptable. I believe the clunky response and screen space leftover for viewing content is still unacceptable. The old version allowed me to use the full iPad screen to view content but this so-called new and improved version looses too much screen space to the browser menu, app menu, previous page arrow, next page arrow and the irritating ad at the bottom of the page. When you are visually impaired, having the full iPad screen to zoom in on and read content is the difference between reading with some ease or frustration. I used the eEdition of The Bee for years but I gave up on The Bee correcting their mistakes by restoring the once decent functionality of this app. I read the The Bee to follow local news but I gave this up because of the frustration caused by trying to read The Bee with this so-called new and improved app Hopefully, after several tries, our yearly subscription has been canceled. 11/3/2019 I tried again today to read The Bee with this so called new and improved app but I gave up after a couple of articles. There have been some improvements since the launch of this horrible app. It appears they replaced the ads that took up about 30% of the screen with an irritating add section at the bottom of the page. One of the articles that I tried to read was one about this horrible app. The person that wrote the article must not have ever used this app. I cannot easily navigate and zoom content in a manner that allows me read content without becoming frustrated. Why do apps like this seem to get worse with every update? The print version in the eEdition app allowed me to easily navigate and zoom content so that I could read it even though my vision is impaired. If you agree that the app is useless compared to the eEdition app or have other issues with this poor app, please send feedback directly to The Bee using the link in the app. Open this app Tap on the icon with three dots (...) next the weather icon Locate the Contact Us section Tap on the Send Feedback for this App link It appears that The Bee management does not care that we cannot use our Bee digital subscription because the so called new and improved app and format does not function as well as the eEdition app. I have contacted customer service and provided feedback via the app. The only response I have received is a form email that infers that I am an idiot and I am not trying to use the so called new and improved and provided a link to the crap app. 10/17/2019 Bee customer service responded to my questions regarding the elimination of the eEdition app and poor quality of the replacement. It appears the Bee management is happy with the new format and do not care that the new format makes it impossible for some of us with impaired vision to read the Bee. Another great example of fixing something that was not broken.

This app is the worst reader among all of my digital subsciptions

Kcrap

The Bee’s latest offering for a digital reader app is so bad that I have no guilt at all letting my digital subscription lapse.

Horrible

johnissimo

Instant delete - couldn’t get it to load a single tab or story even with a strong WiFi right next to it.

Fewer stories than printed paper

unimpressed8888

I’m considering going completely digital, so am comparing the print version versus app version. There are at least two specific stories I read in the print version that I can’t find in the app. I’m sure I could do a search, but if I didn’t know they existed I wouldn’t be able to do that...

Worst News App ever conceived

tim akin

Too many duplicative categories, hard to navigate, stale stories still posted, no social sharing icons, poor UX overall. Tech reflects underinvestment and lack of innovation, tell tale sign of McClatchy’s teetering on the brink of bankruptcy.

Frustrating!

unhappy Bee subscriber

This app doesn’t work well at all. After nearly 40 years as a subscriber to the print version I finally cancelled it because of horrible service and the fact the news in the paper was at least 24-48 hours old. I’ve been trying to use the digital version but it is unfortunately very difficult to use. The news coverage is much better in the digital version but half the time it won’t let me on. Plus they can’t get my billing right even though they take my money monthly. I subscribe to several other newspapers and I’ve never had any problems like I have with the Bee. Plus...there is no sacbee e-edition in the Apple App Store.

Frustrated

This is the most problematic app that I use.

Very difficult app to negotiate

byujdfkl

The Sac Bee app used to be good, just like reading a print edition. Now it’s almost impossible to read! I doubt I will renew my subscription because I can’t get the full paper to appear on my screen, screens jump from one place to another, too many ads and numerous other problems. So frustrating instead of satisfying.

Poor

App doesn’t include all content of print edition. Link to eEdition doesn’t function. Very frustrating.
