Insufficient teaching method

Dhebejaiwmen

I used Rosetta Stone for over a year but cancelled my subscription recently and am super happy with the other App (Babbel) that I’m using. Rosetta Stone uses a boring, dated method of matching a word or string of words to a picture. That’s all this app is. It uses an immersive method, where everything is in the language you’re learning. This can be really difficult at times because you’re essentially guessing at what it’s saying. There’s a lack of variety in teaching, lack of clear instructions, and lack of creativity. It can be helpful when you’re first starting out to learn basic terms, but if you’re trying to actually learn a language, try another app.

Irish at heart

I shut down my social media and picked up a language!

German

I’ve Always understood German but I never was able to fully immerse and speak, but this immersive app really made it so much clearer for me to learn to finally speak my fathers native tongue! I highly recommend this to anyone new to learning languages to be able to develop long lasting skills and memory!

Problems with images

scmoas

My main complaint with this app is that on an iPhone, I often have a hard time telling what the images are supposed to be, even when I zoom in. In some cases they’re just too small to see, even if I zoom in 2x using Apple’s screen zoom feature. The worst one so far was when I was shown a pink blanket, sheet, towel, and pillow. They all looked like pink blankets. The other issue is when the image relies on facial expressions and body language to convey something — often the facial features are too small to make out, or the ‘acting’ just isn’t clear. This is a case where a cartoon would actually be better than a photo, because expressions could be exaggerated. Finally, I can’t always tell the gender of the people in the images. When you have a short-haired woman bent over a sink, washing her hair, and I can’t see her face, or a young boy with a unisex haircut and his body is covered by a blanket, I don’t know what I’m looking at. Wouldn’t matter if the exercises didn’t specify man/woman/boy/girl, but since they do, it would help if the images were more obvious.

Rosetta Stone Review of Program and App

ertrw

User friendly. App makes it really easy to complete a lesson or two even in very busy days, the continuity of which seems to help reinforce learning very well. Excellent mixture of learning to speak and listen (with and without words in other language making you understand both written and listening and a combo of both). Progresses through language skills/grammar etc in a systematic way with spiraling back to reinforce older lessons. Lessons short, fluid, and interactive so keeps attention. Language software recognition is much better other resources I have tried. Have been wanting to try for years due to Rosetta’s excellent reputation in language learning and very glad I did. I think subscription may have even come with money back guarantee? Can’t remember for sure but you won’t need it if you are really interested in learning other language(s) and are willing to set aside 10-20 minutes most/several days of the week.

STEALS MONEY

Do not buy download this app!!! First you have to PAY 15.00$ just to even select a language to learn, AND you have to PAY AGAIN ANOTHER 10.00$ just to start a session, and I don’t mean you have to pay only that for every session you take, YOU HAVE TO PAY EVERY TIME YOU START NOT EVEN MENTIONING THAT EVEN TIME YOU START THE APP IT CHARGES YOU 5.00$, LIKE WHAT. And even when you delete it, it charges you MONTHLY it’s a scam do not DOWNLOAD

Easy to use.

Bootleg

There is a taskbar that blocks out the bottom of the app making me unable to read the bottom of slides. It makes me redo the same classes after passing. screen freezes at random, I lose my progress at random.

The app would be so good if the speaking feature actually worked

brown baackwords

Great way of learning but whenever I try to speak the microphone won’t work. It’s not a problem on my end because other apps like Duolingo work just fine.

Good while it lasts

I purchased 12 months of Swedish language lessons but there were only 6 months of Swedish courses available in Rosetta Stone. This was not explained and no refund was provided.
