PTSD Coach was created by VA’s National Center for PTSD and DoD’s National Center for Telehealth & Technology.
Of all of the apps I have seen and attempted to use this has been the best BY FAR! For free it offers awesome mindfulness and breathing exercises. Alternates between soothing pictures, sounds, ideas based on what’s tearing you apart at the moment. Every single day of my existence is a struggle to make it through. I was reaching a point in my day where there was more time in a panic And terror and rottenness then not. This application has significantly helped me in the heat of these moments. It has helped my ability to deal with the panic attacks and steer me from feeling completely lost to there is a light in the far off distance. If you don’t know what to do, You don’t have anywhere to go, try this app. It’s seriously helping me.
Useful as an adjunct to seeing a therapist/ outpatient treatment. - love the function that tracks the severity of PTSD as it changes throughout weeks/ months- it's really hopeful seeing mine go from severe to moderate on a downwards trend - love the coping skills for the problem you are having, especially the progressive relaxation and guided meditation exercises Overall, a great accessible cheap tool to help manage symptoms.
This app is what the VA should be using to help vets. Their current system is a total failure and that failure leads to dead vets. This app makes self evaluation and tracking a breeze. The VA's staff makes the problems worst. The exact people who should care don't care. Example: VA psychiatrist doing PTSD exam "Were you in combat?" Me, "I was in the AF and ....". She closed her notebook and the interview was over. As if the AF wasn't part of the war. After 2 years in-country here was a VA professional discounting my service. Great app and no value judgements. A better way to evaluate PTSD than by flesh and blood idiots.
Sort of need a job to have benefit from this. You can only do what you can do.
I am a marriage & family therapist. This is a great tool that I often recommend to my clients. +++
Thank you for coming up with a great app. My therapist gave it to me recently. Just adding the photos made me happy. I am not a vet but a former teacher . I have severe PTSD and agorophobia which is depressing. I used to travel the world alone and as a woman I was very careful I loved doing it. Now I have a hard time taking my dog out. Again, thanks for the app. Does anyone know if there is a group in Martinez CA? Would I be allowed to go? Thanks , Linda
Being a survivor has not been as easy as the battle. I appreciate the many tools this app has to offer. Would like to make a suggestion on the relaxation tool. If the screen on my iPod is not kept active by touching it the app closes. This is frustrating when trying to relax. Is there a setting on my iPod or within the app that would allow the audio to keep playing even if the screen closes? Thank you for all your efforts in providing such a supportive app!
It makes a difference, it does distract me from my emotional states. But the meditation practices make all the difference.
This app took me from severe to moderate PTSD! Couldn't have asked for better! =D
