Unusable and disappointing

After the latest update, I can't even get the app to open. When I try, t says it is downloading from the database and then kicks me back out to the main screen. I emailed tech support weeks ago and have received no response and the issue remains. That is 2 YEARS of journaling down the drain! All I ask is "Help me access my past writings and we can part in peace." That is not asking too much.

The new update came with some good things. The white background and the ability to choose text was nice, that the journal would stay on the page even after tabbing out was an immense upgrade. However, another feature has rendered it useless. Let me explain: I downloaded this app when Penzu forgot my password and made my previous writings unreachable. I use these apps to write snips or ideas for my novel when I am in transit or not at a computer and an idea comes to me. I prefer an app that has a passcode for this reason, in case my phone is misplaced or lost. The new update makes it impossible to hold down and edit text. The app now "swipes" and "turns the page" if I try to edit a word that is on the left or right of the screen, and not in the middle. It is infuriating, and had made the app a huge hassle and, if I'm being honest, useless. Sad to see it go, as I have pages and pages of writing in it. I will be copying and pasting them to a new app, as this app is completely useless with this added feature. There is no setting to turn this page swipe off. Not all of us have an iPhone 6 Plus, I'm not sure if that would matter. It seems almost anywhere I try to press to edit (as opposed to back spacing my entire writing and rewriting it) causes this page turning effect to trigger. Immensely annoying. I do not know how I can make my fingers any smaller so as not to trigger this effect.

I start using it and in a day I wrote some thoughts and stuff I needed to keep under a security code and one of the times I open back the app all the info was gone.

I wrote down my homework assignment in the journal and when I went on it to to see the assignment it wasn't there! When I did that same homework assignment I was finished, but then I went to the next page and it was all deleted! This happened to me three times. I finally just decided to take a picture of it so that I could prove I did it.

Loved this app until I downloaded iOS 9 now it will not open. I know my passcode but it crashes when I put in code. Not happy! Please sends us an update to fix this problem. C. Matheson

When I open this app, I can't find the settings button. I don't have tab instructions listed on the side. I just added to a new iPad, how do I restore in app purchases so I can get rid of these adds?

The review after this review is concerning an earlier version, when the app was good. Now this app is unusable. Twice in the past week I've written a great deal and had it deleted upon closing the app and reopening. What is that?! I use my journal as a therapeutic tool and often refer back to gauge my progress. Sadly, Private Journal is now completely useless. If you have important entries concerning life events that you'd like to save for future reference, THIS ISNT IT!!! A simple and useful app for expressing your private thoughts. I appreciate that it is free but still have 1 minor complaint and 1 suggestion. Complaint: a single page for each day is, at times, too limiting. Suggestion: It would be most helpful if upon inserting a picture, the words would displace so as not to be hidden by the pic. As it is, I either have to manually make a space by hitting return mid-way through the sentences, write less so the pic fits at the bottom or leave the picture layered upon the words and move it when I'm re-reading my entries. Regardless, thanks for a useful and free app P.S. Also when pics are imported, they are sometimes upside down or sideways requiring you to exit the journal, edit the pic, re-enter the journal and import again. Even having done that, the pic may still be askew and you have to repeat the process.

UPDATE Dec 16 2015 still unusable. I don't understand how an app that obviously doesn't work is still available. I'm sick of sh!tty developers putting out sh!tty products! Come on Apple, remove them as developers. Can I give a negative 5 stars?! Can't believe this is even still available, no fixes? So disappointing that the developers etc aren't fixing this. Obviously they don't understand how journaling can help people with sadness, depression and grief, otherwise they might have fixed in the six MONTHS this has been wonky.

I had tried this app several years ago, but abandoned due to stability. Got the desire to try again Jan 1 since I like the user experience - when it's working. However, it's COMPLETELY unstable, and for the first time ever I next will research how to get my money back from the App Store for a useless product... Sad, the interface is great...maybe the engineers should spend more time on making the stability better - or at least decent...
