New UI is absolute garbage
E717373793

They’ve totally destroyed a once useful app with the “improved” user interface. What was once simple and intuitive (e.g., deleting podcasts) is now obscured by layers of crap.

Becoming unusable
lisaviv

This app has been great but for last few weeks it just stops playing casts randomly and then will play at all.

The interface is so bad
Ballistic Bacon

This app used to be great, but now it’s all waisted space and anti-intuitive organization Update: overdrive seems to be a good alternative, but I’m still testing

Favorite Podcast app
Dalek_Genocide

I consume a lot of podcasts and I’ve tried a lot of apps and always find myself coming back to this. I listen in order most of the time and I love how it’s organized. I really dislike the inbox view some apps have. I like being able to see all of my podcasts. I’ve paid for the app on both android and iOS and don’t regret it

Great design, poor execution
jd2020

Amazing customization and a darn good UI seems hobbled by poor coding. New features are great but basic playback has problems. They haven’t fixed basic problems: the player stops randomly, the player “de-registers” from iOS player control disappearing shortly after pausing podcasts, and Siri fails to go back/forward so frequently it’s hardly usable (possibly fixed). Recent app updates are unstable: my entire up-next queue disappeared and the app is now crashing every few days. Overcast player sounds better anyway, but it’s UI paradigm and download/stream model doesn’t work for me. But at least it’s work. I revised from 3 to 1 star because the app has actually gotten worse this year. Sigh.

Fantastic

Fantastic app. Motivate users for listening more by counting time.

Bugs and issues after redesign
tex red

I ran into a whole bunch of problems after the UI was redesigned a while back. Playback issues, loss of episodes, crashes. Some problems were resolved by reinstalling, but I've continued having problems using the app. Cannot recommend. Switching over to Overcast.

I love Pocket Casts. Love it. Except...
thfump

This is one of my favorite apps from a design perspective ever. It is quick, pretty, smooth, everything is just as it should be. It looks simple but has a zillion options under the hood if you need them. Except... There is one simple little feature that I (and take a search on Reddit and you'll find many of us) have been begging for for ages: folders. Folders. You know, those things that the very earliest computers did from the very earliest times. The things that are so basic you don't even think about them as a feature. All I want to do is be able to sort my subscribed podcasts in folders so I can find a history podcast when I want one. Or a comedy one when I want one of those. Or put all my recent discoveries in one place. Or put all the podcasts I've listened to and dislike in a Podcast Dungeon so I don't accidentally download them again and subject myself to their misery. And yes, the source of this problem is that I subscribe to a gazillion podcasts. But look: Pocket Casts is meant to be a podcast-nut's podcast app. And mostly it is. Except ... if you're actually a nut for podcasts. Then it's impossible to ever find anything. Not that I listen to all of these podcasts all the time. That would be insane. There are a few core ones, and then there are a lot that I like to check in on every once in a while. And then there are others that a friend has recommended but I haven't had a chance to check out yet. Etc. But there are a lot of them, and there are almost no organizational features in Pocket Casts – just one giant endless list of frustration ... I mean, podcasts. Now, you might say: why don't you just delete this app and find another one with folders? Or: why did you rate this app 4-stars and then moan about it for four paragraphs? Here's why: because it is a brilliant little app. It is so beautiful. It works so fantastically well. It just desperately needs the most basic organizational feature imaginable: folders. Please for the love of god. Can I give you money? Can I send you wine? Can I bring you a hot towel & a mint like I'm a 60s airline steward? What if I write you a love song?

Audio skipping erratically.
capntang

Used this on Android and though it would be the best option for me on iOS. Features are good. Interface is fine. Unfortunately it doesn’t work as well on iOS. Audio skips around erratically. Chunks of episodes are skipped over suddenly. Attempting to rewind and replay skipped over sections reveals issue with the downloaded audio that persists after rewind/replay. Switched to another podcast app and did not experience the same issue. May give this one another shot in the future, but the skipping is just too distracting when trying to follow a story.
