PDF viewer

PDF Viewer is a no-cost, ad-free app which allows you to view and annotate PDF documents. Published by PSPDFKit, this is an iPhone and iPad app ideal for business and educational uses. Of important note is that it supports Apple Pencil use, which pushes the annotations to a higher level than many other PDF apps I’ve used. Simply import a PDF to the app and click on the editing icon to reveal a toolbar for highlighting, writing, inserting images and basic drawing tools. Signing a document or filling out a PDF form has never been easier. Once you’re finished, exporting options allow you to airdrop the edited PDF to the device or to any Cloud storage. The toolbar is user-friendly and icons, though unlabeled, are relatively self-explanatory. The app does not use any audio or video media, but it does give you the option to voice-text in a comment box rather than type (however, this is the talk-to-text icon offered by Apple’s keyboard and not by the app itself). This app would be an excellent part of a student’s learning portfolio. Here, a student could upload any print media as a PDF (docs, spreadsheets, presentations, images, snapshots, etc) and take notes on it to personalize the recording of the learning experience. In addition, PDF Viewer provide background templates allowing you to create a PDF to annotate, such as lines or graph paper. Then, students could very easily share these PDFs back and forth with the teacher or one another. One obvious limitation is the lack of real-time collaborative use. The documents are static and copies are created when exported. Also the fact that the app is not available for Android means that its use could be limited to Apple-friendly classrooms only; a teacher could not expect students equitably being able to use this at home. The more I review this, the more I uncover about the capabilities!

Has potential but Lots of bugs

drraak81

I appreciate the free software very much and there is potential here... but... Written notes randomly flip upside down when touching iPad with palm (can’t be undone - painful to have this happen several times after much editing/annotation work...); random crashes; shows google drive folders for only 2 seconds before showing an error; can’t open google team drives. I don’t see a need for a new viewer since there are many already - I wanted a program to edit and/or annotate. Wish I could have more than one pen and highlighter. Marking resolution is a bit coarse.

great viewer

PDF viewer has really good navigation aids, the annotation list appears quickly even for 2000-page documents, and the rendering is also among the fastest.

Subscription ware - for full features

DavidFoster

Absolutely no reason to subscribe; it’s just a way for the creators to reach into your wallet and stay there. While I can understand why a subscription could be used for recurring costs like a server or online storage, it makes no sense for a PDF viewer. Recommend you look at PDF Expert or some other single charge app. Deep six this unless the free features are useful and you don’t mind seeing ‘Pro’ ads everywhere.

Needs An Update ASAP

nogoodbecky

Love this app! However I do feel like the interface needs a bit of work because viewing documents is confusing. And my biggest issue is that when my iPad tablet rotates to portrait or landscape the app will randomly close. Also when re-opening the app, the document looks funny for a few seconds. It’s impossible to read with locked views but please change. This review and app could easily be 5 starts! Update 7/26/18: Updated this app and no longer have viewing issues. That and opening the app once closed was very frustrating when a document didnt open correctly or the app simply crashed but its fixed now and works amazingly! I use this app for reading books and being able to take notes and highlight is extremely useful, especially across all my apple devices! Cant say again that i love this app

very good

For some unexpected reasons, the app collapse down, so that I can’t open any file. After install some other PDF reader, the problem disappear. I like the APP, in the situation of running well.

Straight-forward

PhelineCat

Pretty straight forward, even for the sleep deprived. Always remember this: movers are morons and will act as though they're the decision makers and entitled to decide it's appropriate to hold expensive lamps by the finial and not pack the bathroom… hence, too little sleep but I found this easier to manage than some I'd approached refreshed. I feel sad for Rachel, the student since she lost double. Taking notes on a computer makes a student have to work a lot harder to learn the material than students who put pen to paper... Losing hand written notes would put a student on level with one who uses a device so that's a big loss. Pity.

Great app great company

Simple. With a great UI to match that makes it a seamless experience on iOS.
