I've been using Papers for a long time, and it is, by far, the best tool for managing academic and even business research. I have over 10,000 books and articles in my collection, and I have access to my research pretty much wherever I am. I use all the tools that Mekentosj offers: tools on my MacBook, my desktop Mac, my iPad, iPhone, and now a new iMac. Everything is linked. My only request would be to provide some richer tools for collaborating remotely. I have several colleagues that are hundreds if not thousands of miles apart, and we could really use a web-based solution, maybe something in the cloud. All that said, I encourage people to share their ideas with the team as they have been incredibly responsive to date. Great job!

Support for this app is beyond bad...

DrLJVA

Was having problems syncing to my Dropbox library... contacted Papers support... took them DAYS to get back to me... and the back and forth dialogue with them was beyond SLOW... not what I've come to expect from an expensive app. Want my money back.

Grows ever larger

A bug/feature of Papers is that if you are hosting your library on Dropbox, and then download the pdf article to the app, you can never get rid of that article! There is no mechanism programmed into the app to remove that pdf. What the heck? I asked about this, and this is apparently a feature, not a bug. I think it's neither. This, to me, is sloppy. It's also arrogant of the developers to believe that Papers has the highest priority for space on my phone, say, over photos of my family, etc.

MVP App - Most Valuable Papers App

I have been using Papers since it's very beginning. Papers is unmatched by any other product available today. The collection management features are robust and the design of the annotation tools is intuitive. The most outstanding feature of Papers3 is the syncing of annotation. I can start reading a paper on my Mini in the office and pick-up where I left off later at home without having to open my backpack. Very Awesome!

Terrible broken app

I own the desktop app and wanted to take advantage of being able to take my papers on the way with me... Well, nothing of synch process went smoothly for me ever since I started using this app till the deletion point. In a nutshell: - synching works only via separately created network on your notebook, connection of an iPad and the notebook with the same WiFi-network will not be enough; - the more you synch, the more discrepancies you get: first, I observed the difference in the number of papers, which grew from 10 to 20, then over 300 deleted papers kept appearig as ghost papers on the mobile version with no attached files; - no indicator showing the progress of transfering pdfs; the process just last enernally without you never knowing whether the transfer is completed or not. Unfortunately, I had to delete this mediocre app and use other readers for iPad. Worst experience ever...

Too many bugs, often crashes

I want to find a good app for reading papers on my iPad but Papers is still far from satisfaction. 1. "Collections" do not work. I can add an article to a "Collection", but cannot open it there. "Shared collection" works fine, but it does seem to support any hierarchy. 2. Always crash when switching to or from night mode. 3. After clicking on a menu item, the command is executed but the menu does not hide automatically, still blocking view.

Left for dead (v3.4.6)

Update v3.4.6: The side menu in the library can’t be used if you open the app in landscape mode, read a paper in portrait and then go back to the library in portrait mode. Issues when trying to highlight some PDF that can be highlighted properly in the desktop application. == Still no split screen ==. Original Review: So, you are probably here because you bought Papers for your desktop. Basically this is your only choice, because even with DropBox sync you can’t use another app to access your files. The problem is the folder structure that Papers impose to your library once is stored in DropBox so it is really difficult to find a file there, virtually not possible. Saying that, you will need this app if you want to read and comment your PDFs on the go. The problem is that this app is really unstable and lacks the split screen feature which would be ideal to read and take notes on another app. The 3.4.3 version supports the iPad Pro, so the text on your PDFs won’t look blurry. Now we need split screen compatibly.

Using it for many years

LR Teacher

Great app! As a researcher it is tremendously useful. I use it to keep all my PDFs and the ability to sync with my iPad and laptop is fantastic. I am never without my papers.

Rarely updated

No updates since May last year! The developers need to listen and solve the problems users had instead of ignoring them.

Excellent
