Fun

Agree with Bucky on the ui. It works, but it's not always easy. Sounds great. Oscillators are rich and decent filter selection. A sequencer would be a huge addition. A realtime oscilloscope would be cool too. And some more patchability of modules now. It's a solid app, and I enjoy using it. Interested to see how much further dev is willing to take it.

Lame

minimal.space

A decent learning tool for a noob but if you're serious use a real system. Swiping your finger around on a screen is nothing like holding a real patch cable in your hand and plugging it into a real module. Real systems are totally within reach of the average musician's budget today. It's called Eurorack. This isn't 1970 where only Keith Emerson can afford a modular.

Needs work

Pros: Sounds good. Modules are pretty well modeled and sound reasonable. Can do complex feedback. The CV controls are modeled at high enough sample rates to be useful. Attractive looking display. Modules will be very familiar to users of traditional 5U classic modulars like the MOTM, Moog V, etc. ...which is a shame, because: Cons: Terrible patching UX. Hard to imagine how someone thought that this was usable. The cable hit areas are perfect for the first plug, and then inexplicable fail 9 out 10 times on the second plug. Some plugs highlight, but are unconnectable at times. Worse yet, you have to drag the cables. No touch then touch. This makes the experience of patching and unpatching *tedious*. A major problem for a modular synth. Free idea for the developer: use the accelerometer to droop the cables so I can move them out of the way. Dragging around patched modules causes the app to sporadically reroute the cables to previously configurations. Buggy as hell. Feels like the developer rushed the patching UX and spent all their time on the art. I hope it gets fixed in a later version, cause I bought the pro pack.

Rediculous design for iPad

Eriptron

To include the iPad, as being optimized for, is a ridiculous statement. It's keyboard is totally useless as the keys on the iPad are impossibly small and if you enlarge them in landscape then there is only one octave and 3/4 of the modules are off screen. In portrait you have less than an octave and you can't see any complete module. Then the poor color scheme! Pale colors and thin font increase eye strain. Are there ANY developers that understand that concept? This app is useless on an iPad!

Totally Brilliant Synth

SpaceCadet-528hz

This is my favorite of all the Modular synthesizers on iOS and even Windows and Mac. The limited cabinet space demands ingenuity and the sound quality is ridiculously good. I've had it for a couple years and hear many complaints, but with something as unassuming as Modular appears, it requires a lot of processing power and some modules (depending on how extensively they are used) can be quite demanding. Save your work. If the thing starts acting wonkey be glad because the real world of Modular synthesis is wonkey and now you know what it's like sweating over a patch. :-) By all means purchase the upgrade for all modules it really makes for some exciting patches.

Highly Portable Skeuomorphic Modular Synth

This is a great way to learn to program modular synths when you don't have a physical modular synth in front of you.

Awesome!

A modular in my pocket!!!! Love it!!!!

Waste of potential

Smack-a-hoe

This app has far too much potential to be as frustrating and tedious as it is. Might be a different story for tablet users but i don't know anyone with enough patience to create a masterpiece using this app, in my opinion. The potential for a great app is all there but navigation is difficult and nerve wracking. Creating new or changing current connections between modules was a bit of a letdown. It can take multiple tries to make the connection intended (pro: accidental discovery/creation. Cons: incredibly frustrating and a bit disgorging. If connection is touched unknowingly it can be broken and has been, in my experience, hard to restore in some cases. 1 wrong touch can undo a simple connection that can take time away from production which can take long enough on its own. In my perspective there are just as many pros as there are cons I've noticed that seem to balance my concerns but still affects my desire to use this to both my and the apps full or even partial potential. I hope my critique is found to be constructive and, ideally, helpful for all those who contributed to the making of such an ingenious mobile app. I have high hopes for this app and would be willing to purchase most if not all in- app offers (not saying that to blow smoke or demand feedback(but feedback would be greatly appreciated) but if any attempts to improve are made id be delighted to respond with much gratitude. If the pros out-way the cons rather than simply equalize the minor flaws that quickly become frustrating, thus making the inspiringly creative potential i see in this program as a musician, id remain hesitant to spend as much time as i need to for such little outcome. Hope for some type of response in the future. I have nothing but faith in this app and so do my friends. Regardless of my high expectations i have for the outcome of this review, the only action that could turn me away from this application would be the lack there of. Again, great app but improvements somewhat necessary to maintain a creative mind-state throughout the session. Thanks! Sincerely, your maybe biggest (hopefully not your only) fan.

Obviously this app took a lot of skill to develop. I can't understand why it was abandoned. I've tried to write the developers and see if it could be ported to Mac. No reply. Everyone who uses this loves it and hates it. It's the BEST virtual modular synth out there, on any platform. And it works. You can build whatever you want to. It sounds good. It even looks nice. But it's very hard to actually use. The GUI is awkward, even on iPad. I'm not mad about the patch cables, they are easy to lock and set transparency. But the fact that it doesn't use the whole screen and you can't "fold" sections when making adjustments really makes it a nuisance to operate. If they would just update the SIZING and FOCUS so you could navigate better, it would be a huge improvement. And the pale colors of the patch manager and other backgrounds?? Maddening. Darker colors and better contrast would make a huge difference. I've been struggling with this app for a couple of years and keep trying to make real use of it but it burns me out after a few minutes each time. It has Audiobus support and EVERYTHING for pro work but it's just impossible to navigate. What a shame :)
