Used to be great...

My name's taken

I spent years as a loyal MealPal customer and remember a time when they had fantastic, friendly service and a wide variety of cheap meal options. Has really gone downhill since then — the app regularly crashes, there are way fewer restaurants (not their fault to be fair) and they’re all concentrated near offices even when most people are remote, and restaurants often give smaller and inferior meals since they’re paid so little by MealPal. Final straw for me was when they raised my costs without informing me!!! I’m sure they’re losing customers and I expect they’ll continue to.

Non refundable

Luizescalco

Extremely rigid app. Will charge you for meals you couldn’t get due to the small pickup window which is clear at the time you sign up for the service, and worst of all, when you find out the rules and that the plan simply can’t work with your schedule, and have to email to cancel and it is non refundable!! Why? Had it been refundable I would rate it reasonably since it could be good if it fits ones schedule, BUT the lack of transparency and the fact it’s non refundable is not acceptable.

Scam of a business

MealPalisaScam

I used MealPal for a trail and without notifying me they automatically put me on a subscription without my knowledge or consent. This appears to be common practice by the firm and no one should ever give their credit card details to them. I think they should be removed off the App Store for predatory practices.

COMPLETE RIP-OFF

Horatio1234

You are given a number of meals to use for the month which can be rolled over if you do not use HOWEVER, you are only allowed to use 1 meal a day. If you do not reserve a meal before 1PM you won’t be able to eat unless you have a dinner plan with comes at an additional cost. If you do not pick up a meal after a reservation or cancel, they count it as a meal used. DO NOT GET THIS SERVICE!! SCAM!!

Great app, BUT….

EK Gee

The good: - incredible number of food choices and restaurants - very responsive and accommodating live customer service - the savings are mind boggling - the roll over plans is super good - a lot of the meals are good size and some are even large - you are given a time window that you can chose to reserve and pick up your food What they need to improve on: - some of the restaurants listed are NOT part of the program actually, so call before deciding what to eat, to confirm - often the photo of the meal will NOT match the actual food (example in the photo it is white rice, but the meal comes with yellow rice, a deal breaker for me) - though you have reserved a meal, if it is later in the day, more OFTEN than not they would have ran out of that meal, and you will have to chose something else (again a deal breaker for me) - sometimes the restaurant will be closed, for one reason or another, but they don’t give you heads up, so when you are on lunch break and have 30-60 min for lunch, and are put in a situation of last minute changes, or having to scramble for lunch, EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING!!! Final verdict: - get this app if you are NOT a foodie, NOT picky with your food and have other lunch alternatives than this app! - DO NOT GET this app if you have limited lunch break, are a foodie, or get easily frustrated!

Be aware of their shady practices

DontHurt

I never write reviews but i feel like i should give A warning for those interested in meal pal. I use a friends referal to get $25 signup for the lunch 20 meal 132 credit for $151 with a 53 credit rollover. Here are some things to be aware of: * when your plan expires, you dont get the rollover credit unless you subscribe again * if you dont order by around 12pm, you wont be able to order for the same day anymore * my plan auto renew whatout a way to just cancel next month or not auto renew. I can either hold or cancel, but not stop auto renew. I have a credit limit, so this was blocked. * i never got the $25 referral * the plan works out to around $1.15 per credit, most meals are between 4-9 credits, but closer to 6-8 each, so each meal is more like $7-9 each or more. * for 20 meal plan, expect to get closer to 16-17 meals. * some places give smaller portions than non meal plans, or dont always give you what was listed, ie missing sides or extras * restaurant seem annoy when you said you have a meal plan pickup * customer service is slow and not very helpful Overall, im paying around $7-9 for a meal, which normally might cost $8-10, so the savings are closer to 10-15% with less flexibility. I would not renew.

Not for vegetarians

nyc123452018

MealPal could be awesome but I’ve tried it twice now for a month or two and found there to be very few vegetarian options. They work with restaurants that have veggie options, but the actual meals offered all have meat. If you’re vegetarian, there are a lot of pizza options but not many balanced meals or healthy options.

Impossible to cancel account

kisayumi

I attempted to cancel my MealPal account as I needed to cut back on expenses and submitted my request via email as instructed. However, I was charged for the next pay period. I cannot recommend this app in good faith until they make the process to cancel a subscription possible, as it is 2021 and this can only be a deliberate design choice on their part.

Avoid - Not As Good As Used to Be

BenTheBird

I canceled early and will not let you used the rest of your meals that would have rolled over because they make the cancel date the next day. I asked if they could wait but It makes it so they can keep the credits you already paid for and cancel your account as soon as possible. Tip: If you go to cancel, put your account on hold and then cancel at the end of hold. Or they will keep your unused meals you PAID for.

Terrible App on Customer Service

Xiaoyi yang

To start with, I think their website is terrible as well. I stopped my subscription due to wfh. When I tried to review the plan detail on their website, it automatically enrolled me in a plan with no notification/confirmation. Once I noticed I’ve been charged for $100 at bank account, I wrote several emails through the customer service on MealPal app and got no response. And the app didn’t leave any record there for what I’ve sent. And after recheck my email, they are not shown in mail sent. I have to dispute the charge on my credit card but then MealPal went back saying I didn’t request any cancellation. Yes, that’s what’s a defective app lead you to. They tried to give user an impression on the app is opening up you mail app with preset email receiver but do not work at all.
