IWO: Bloodbath in the Bonins

Iwo Jima was a critical point on the flight path of US bombers from their Saipan bases to their Japanese targets. The island would be a refuge for malfunctioning or damaged bombers coming or going. An obvious target for a US amphibious assault, the Japanese had reinforced the garrison and dug miles of tunnels the length and breadth of the island. Their goal was to inflict maximum casualties on the Americans to force them to reconsider the seemingly inevitable invasion of Japan. The resulting battle was brutal, even by the standards of the Pacific War.

Needs work
Bigdaddy87

Had high hopes for this one, but alas, it was not to be. Game save does not work, even though you have the option to continue a game. Should have saved my money. Too bad you can't try these things on a trial basis and get a refund when they stink.

Too new to judge
Duncan ok

I haven't spent enough time to judge it properly, but I have initial impressions. I love many of their WW2 games, all the TBEF games, TB North Africa, TB1944, and Normandy is epic. Out of the box, first experience with those games flowed easy, play is intuitive, and you don't need to learn arcane unit icons. Terrain features are visually obvious. So far, IWO is nothing like this. It's clunky to play, unit identification as to type (infantry, armored, artillery, machine gun, etc.) is not readily apparent, or so far for me, distinguishable at all. They seem to be all the same. Movement and progression through the combat phase is klunky and disjointed, no real flow to it. In the other Ww2 games you move units one at a time, and fire their weapons, adjusting subsequent attacks based on the results of earlier ones. In this game, you don't get that smooth flow, move, fire, move, fire. Maybe I'll get used to it, but it hasn't been what I expected or looked forward to.....at least from what I've seen so far. We'll see if I feel differently after some more game time.

Great game but
Python1946

I love this game! Only problem is I can't get past turn 13 before the game ends. Supposed to go to turn 16. Without the extra 3 turns, impossible to win the game. The instructions allude to shortening the game turns by using your reserve regiment, however it is pretty vague. I tried not using the reserve regiment, however the game still ends on turn 13. Might be a bug. Overall I highly recommend this game.

Keeps crashing
tiger3 time

Have all their games love them, this keeps crashing. Don't know how. To fix it

Frustrated
MWMarine

The game appears to be designed to make it impossible to win. The unrealistically limited game turns are even more restricted when you loose turns by committing reserve regiments. Without the reserves you have insufficient combat power to clear the northern end of the island. With the reserves committed you have insufficient time. I agree with other commenters that the movements are clumsy, but you could work through that if there appeared a real chance to think your way to a win. I have hung it up for now. Maybe it will get a rework.

A Hot Mess
Dinkydoo4692

I've been trying to play this game since Christmas Eve, but it's unplayable. As another reviewer observed: Clunky controls, zero flow, and no logic. This game doesn't know what it wants to be, so it fails.

Bad game
Normadyfly33

This game is the worst on the market today! I have played 20 times and have not come close to defeating the Japanese. Very boring after a few days....Glenn T

Terrible Game

Waste of money - very disappointing.

Terrible and it shouldn't be!

This game was slapped together, released and then forgotten. Had the developers taken the time to fix bugs and issue an update this game could be great. I cannot even save a game and tech support is nowhere to be found. Do not buy this game!!!!!!!
