Too new to judge – IWO: Bloodbath in the Bonins Review

I haven't spent enough time to judge it properly, but I have initial impressions. I love many of their WW2 games, all the TBEF games, TB North Africa, TB1944, and Normandy is epic. Out of the box, first experience with those games flowed easy, play is intuitive, and you don't need to learn arcane unit icons. Terrain features are visually obvious. So far, IWO is nothing like this. It's clunky to play, unit identification as to type (infantry, armored, artillery, machine gun, etc.) is not readily apparent, or so far for me, distinguishable at all. They seem to be all the same. Movement and progression through the combat phase is klunky and disjointed, no real flow to it. In the other Ww2 games you move units one at a time, and fire their weapons, adjusting subsequent attacks based on the results of earlier ones. In this game, you don't get that smooth flow, move, fire, move, fire. Maybe I'll get used to it, but it hasn't been what I expected or looked forward to.....at least from what I've seen so far. We'll see if I feel differently after some more game time.
