Getting worse not better. Now unusable on iPad

thatwaseasy

Random shifting of my annotations. Inability to load and show documents of modest length. I use iAnnotate for years. It is no longer reliable. Pity.

Better than most other similar products, but still buggy

I used the original iAnnotate PDF and liked it. I was really annoyed that they stopped updating it whenever various cloud services changed their APIs because I had to move my documents to a service that was still supported. Finally the last of my cloud services stopped being supported in the old version. In principle I refused to buy this version because I really felt the developer forcing me to pay full price for an update to an app I already owned was greedy. At least Microsoft and Adobe give an “upgrade” price to reward loyal customers. I tried at least 4 other products to avoid buying this update, but none measured up to what I liked about iAnnotate PDF, so I broke down and bought this one. I’ve been using it to grade my college students’ papers for about 8 months, so I can speak from a lot of experience about its usefulness and problems. I do like the app overall (4 stars), but I’m getting really tired of having to find workarounds for recurring problems. The most annoying one: The app often tells me that I don’t have an internet connection when I really do. Safari, Facebook, and other apps that require internet work fine. The only way to clear the error is to close *every* app my iPad Pro is running, including iAnnotate, and reopen only iAnnotate. 1. Being able to open multiple tabs is great. I often need to have a grading sheet, a student’s term paper, and the rubric open simultaneously. This works *most* of the time. But when the “no internet” error occurs, I have to close all saved document tabs before killing the program. If I don’t, the error won’t clear. And if I have more than one tab with unsaved changes, killing the problem once doesn’t always resolve it. Then when I finally get my tabs saved, I have to reopen any tabs I’d had open before. This is an incredible waste of my time. I now open only one tab at a time unless I just can’t help it. 2. Moving between open tabs “forces” a tab to try to save. I tried using iAnnotate when I didn’t have internet access, but even though I “downloaded” documents for offline use, I can’t open them in a tab, and when there’s no internet connection, any documents that I opened in tabs prior to going offline can’t save and give me the “no internet” error that forces me to kill the program when I do get back to internet service. In iAnnotate PDF, I could open 8 tabs, switch between them, make all the changes I wanted, and then sync those changes when I finally got to internet service just by hitting one “sync” icon. Now I’m afraid I’ll lose data if I keep working after a failed sync because I did lose data once when multiple tabs had unsynced information. I couldn’t close any of the tabs because they were unable to sync, and killing the program wouldn’t resolve the “no internet” error, so I had to reboot the iPad. All unsynced documents lost all my annotations. And syncing one document at a time is ridiculous when killing the app does finally resolve the “no internet” issue. 3. I’ve finally had to resort to saving all changes, closing all tabs, and going back to the main file list that shows only my OneDrive icon if I want to use any program on my iPad because if I leave iAnnotate open with active tabs, when I move to a different app, iAnnotate gives me the “no internet” error when I go back to it. I also have to do this if I’m going to set the iPad Pro down for any length of time. Open tabs “lose” their internet connection even though I saved all tabs before setting the tablet aside, so the first annotation I put in an open tab won’t sync. Wish list: A. A sync icon to sync all open tabs at once instead of them syncing when I switch between tabs. B. A way to truly go offline when using the app. C. Fixing whatever bug is causing iAnnotate to drop its internet connection randomly. D. The ability to edit an annotation. After it’s been confirmed, I can only delete it or move it. Occasionally I get a stray mark from my hand resting on the screen but don’t realize it until I’ve confirmed the annotation. Some marks are large and cover something important so need to be erased without deleting all the content of an annotation.

This app was great in the past. Now it’s junk, when you highlight something a box pops with the words you just highlighted. Its very annoying to have a document that has all those boxes popping up.

Import files from web

Gaylen

Please someone tell me how to do it. Used to be a snap. Update - now it converts files to chinese when saving from an email to iannotate. Can’t believe how they messed up this app. It used to work so great. Now useless.

PDF content or markup disappear

1adventure

The pdf content or markups disappear if you close the screen in iOS. I used the app constantly, but now I have stopped using it.

Essential business tool

Kpacts

As a self-employed proofreader, I cannot imagine completing the thousands of pages I read monthly without iAnnotate. This app allows my business to be portable, which increases my efficiency. I can also connect the app to Dropbox and Google Drive, whatever my clients prefer. The latest version has increased tool functionality as well. iAnnotate, for me, is essential to my business.
