Awesome watch, bad app

hailcheese

I’ve had a vivomove and this app for maybe two years, and although I love the watch, the app is downright bad. Pros, it tracks my steps, mileage and my calorie burning (somehow). It also looks nice. Cons, it is hard to sync, always slow and sometimes just doesn’t do it at all. This is the biggest problem, it should at the very least be able to connect to the watch, if it can’t it’s just a bad product. Other smaller problems include the calendar at one point had “badges” when you completed certain challenges but they just disappeared one day for no real reason, and in the first few months it used to automatically track runs but then never again. It has other features but I can’t review them because I don’t use them, I’m scared it will just stop working with more complicated demands on it.

Good but buggy

galaguns

the health features work well but the Bluetooth with my iPhone 7 is a major issue. In the past I have been able to eventually connect in about 15 minutes of several restarts and sync retrys. Now after the connect app finds it, it attempts to pair but bombs out after a couple of minutes. Saving up for a different brand that is not near so frustrating.

Piece of Crap

Wash, rinse, repeat

I can’t get my Edge 530 to pair with my iPhone XS. In fact it doesn’t even show up on the list of devices. Utterly useless.

Friendly and useful

I own an edge 820 and a Fenix 5x watch, which combined with the app, they become a performance tracking powerhouse.

Moved from Fitbit

I've always used Garmin to track workouts, but I finally bought a Garmin that also did daily activity tracking. I love my new Garmin FR645. Live the additional features the app has to the workout tracking I'm used to using. There is one thing it needs to be fixed. After a run, when viewing stats, the aerobic and anaerobic numbers are the same value. Click on the field for more details and the anaerobic value will be corrected (e.g., aerobic and anaerobic will both display 3.2 in list view. Click to see more detail and aerobic will be 3.2 and anaerobic will be 0.0).

Used to be a great app, no longer.

UPDATE 22 August, 2019 This app gets worse every update. Just updated to version 4.22, conducted a workout and when I went to review my work, the only exercise the app recognizes or lists is “Unknown.” So not only would it not save any corrected data, it no longer recognizes any exercises you do and the database of exercises no longer exists. UPDATE 9 July, 2019 After lengthy email chains with Garmin support; login, logout, reinstall dances; several updates, the app continues to frustrate. Editing activities is mostly impossible, and while the interface remains beautiful and intuitive, it is utterly useless as a log or tracker. Time to consider another tracker and app. UPDATE 4 June, 2019 After the most recent update, I can no longer edit training sessions (exercise descriptions, reps, weights, distances, times, elevation gains, etc.); each attempt results in a error “cannot save” message. Please address... The ease of use and intuitive nature of this app make it gangbusters. Like all Garmin products, this app is easy to use, is packed with features, and communicates well on line with your connect account. However, there is one small complaint... while there are lots of exercises preloaded, they don’t have them all. Please allow the user to add their own exercises to the database.

Recent Update - NOT GOOD!

[prec+sion]

The most recent update has caused workouts to show up as “unknown” with no way to change the workout. For example, where it shows reps and the the type of workout you did, it shows “unknown” where you should be able to select “bench press” or “dumbbell bicep curls” etc. Please fix! Will update rating when corrected.

Doesn’t work

I can’t track any progress because it times out while syncing and never fully syncs. Not happy

Garmin, why is this app so big and clumsy? What exactly is going on with the code that is shy of 400 megs? For a rather simple synching app this seems outrageous to the extent that it can no longer be updated over the cell network even with Apple's increased allowance. For the sake of baby unicorns and reaching our training goals, please reduce the size as much as you can!
