amazing

i got this app to help with homework that i needed to get done, specifically when you get distracted in the midst of notetaking, and this app is so helpful to not be distracted and lose track of time on social media. i only wish there were more free sessions because i feel i will use this app a lot in the future

Good idea but buggy

It's a great idea, looks good, seems simple to use, but has some issues that I hope will get fixed. - It seems incapable of handling a one-time block scheduled to start after the current calendar day ends. So I can't schedule a block to start tonight at midnight, for example, or any time later this week. - I'm not sure it's effectively blocking all sites in Safari on iPhone. I was able to reload a page I was already on once, and I was able to load nytimes.com another time. - I set the app to notify me when a session starts and ends, but it only notifies me when it ends. It doesn't seem to have the current session listed anywhere. - As admitted in the app itself, it has trouble blocking the Facebook app, so you have to delete it before your session and make sure you can't download it again during the session.

app never truly deletes from phone

This app requires VPN access. I logged out of the app and deleted it from my phone. However when you go to Settings > General > VPN, the app configuration is still there; usually there is a "Delete Profile" beneath the settings but there isn't an option to do so for the ironically-named Freedom app. So, despite logging out and deleting this app from my phone, its confirmations and data will remain on your phone. This information is not given to users and any app, but especially one that charges for additional uses, have a moral obligation to give uses an easy way to wholly remove the app and it's data from your phone.

Wifi vs data

The app works when it's on data. The app doesn't work when it's on wifi. Note that I experienced this with ios devices

Block Apps

Useless if I can't block apps

Couldn't get it to work on phone

This app says you need to install the blocker app and need a vpn to do that, but fails to establish the vpn. The website instructions for iPhone say the same thing, but in another section says it doesn't use a vpn anymore. Either way, I set this up to block multiple apps and it failed with all of them. Maybe I'm not doing it right, but if I had time to troubleshoot, I wouldn't be using an app like this in the first place.

Great for iPhone, not as great for Windows

I LOVE Freedom on my iPhone. I've tried free and cheap apps but I could always bypass them. Not so with Freedom. However, I tried to use Freedom on my woefully underpowered work laptop and it made it impossible to access websites I actually need for work, I guess because Freedom uses its own VPN. I had to uninstall Freedom on my laptop, but there are free website blockers that work well. The alternatives for the iPhone aren't as good.

Doesn't work

It used to work but I haven't been able to get it to work for some time now. I start the session and tell it to block all websites and apps but it doesn't. Frustrating especially since I bought a lifetime premium membership...

Almost useful

"Scheduled" blocks start and stop at random, or possibly in relation to some other time zone. (Whatever it is, it isn't PST.) Also, sometimes the app quits itself in the background & needs to be opened again manually for it to resume blocking. When it does decide to run a scheduled block, it is effective at blocking twitter etc., but since it doesn't follow the user-made schedule, it's not much use. Also no feature to block after 'x' minutes per hour/day (like leechblock for desktop browsers.) Cancelling my subscription ASAP.

Works well except when it doesn't

Does the job. Blocks websites and app access. Helps keep me focussed. User interface leaves a lot to be desired. Trying to delete sessions once begun is tricky (locked mode is on by default - why???) - especially when you work in an industry where you might suddenly need Instagram access. I can forgive the delete session issue and UI qualms... what is less forgivable is that blocking stays into effect after sessions end. Netflix will fail to reach server until I re-open Freedom to "remind" it that it needs to stop doing its job. It's the little things that wear on you. Basic principles.
