Just like with the graphic interface of AV receivers, ES Remote has cool graphics and is easy to use. It handles basic AV receiver operations (turning on and off the power, adjusting the volume, switching input sources, switching sound fields, etc.) as well as Zone functions. That way, you can easily operate the AV receiver from the screen of your iPod touch/iPhone, even in another room. The app is even equipped with a DMC (Digital Media Controller) function. Designing ES Remote in an advanced manner just for AV receivers enabled high sound quality playback of Internet service content and music files on your NAS or PC with ES Remote.

Sony stopped supporting the app for this receiver and removed the app. They’ll do the same thing to you. Company has gone south don’t support this behavior! BOYCOTT SONY!!!!!

If the app is designed to change to the older AV Remote app to suit the receiver I purchased then fix the AV Remote App so it works or allow STR-DA5600ES to use this app. Why is the Sony solution make a new App for our brand new AV receiver and just forget about all the people and product we gained last year? Disgraceful sales etiquette Sony.

The list of compatible receivers is not complete. This app is compatible with the 3600, 4600 and the 5600 as well.
Does NOT work with STR DA5600ES!

This does not work with the STR DA5600ES. Even if it recognizes the receiver, it prompts you to download the Sony AV Remote app to use instead .

This info says that the app will work with "all Sony AV receivers released in 2011". I just purchased a DN1030. It will not work with this high-end receiver. I suggest that Sony try to be more helpful towards its customers. I have been a loyal Sony customer for 20 or more years but support has really gone downhill.

This app is excellent for controlling the proper Sony receiver. My STR-DA5700ES is a great receiver with a bit of a slow interface when it comes to settings. This app takes care of all that. Changes are practically instantaneous. This app genuinely makes a good receiver more useable. Also, you can change soundfields on the fly with no on-screen menu. The handheld remote almost let's you do that, but not nearly as convenient. Last thing, some networks are finicky when it comes to using these controller apps. Some people have routers behind routers and other issues. Make sure you troubleshoot before you decide it doesn't work with your receiver. I had to turn off NAT on my router a while ago due to these issues. That said, this app saw my receiver right away. Make sure you tap on the receiver name, not the extra settings.
