Phenomenal

I've taken 5 years of Spanish in school. I recently started Duolingo because if you don't use it, you lose it. I'm learning so much more in such a short amount of time than I ever did in school. I convinced my girlfriend to start as well because they've been wanting to learn Spanish for some time. Our goal is to be able to watch tele novelas together. My girlfriend has become as hooked as I am :)

Good but many problems

mind your own life

The actual learning is good and helpful but the concept of using hearts and ads to get people to but a premium version is horrible. One big reason people download this app is because it is a free learning app. You have 5 lives and each mistake costs a life and if you lose all lives, you either have to pay gems or pay with real money to get lives. You also get a Duolingo add convincing you to get premium then get an ad for a game right after closing it THEM GET ANOTHER AD after closing the game ad with another ad convince you to buy (you guessed it) premium. The app even tells you that people who pay premium are 4.2X more likely to complete a language course which is literally a confession that you won’t learn or develop a language you want if you don’t pay with real money. If your going to put paid options in the app at least make the app paid instead of being free so we don’t have to deal with all this. It’s externally annoying because the way the app teaches you is really helpful and fun but adding this “feature” makes the app horrible and your better off looking up a language textbook online and studying from that so you don’t have to pay $2.99 a week to breath and learn a language on an app that is MEANT TO BE FREE.

Easy and rewarding learning experience

I’ve been learning Russian and am on a 28 day streak now. I really enjoy the lessons, and they do a great job of introducing new verbs, nouns, pronouns, etc. slowly slowly to build up familiarity gradually. The practice lessons it offers are also very helpful, however my only suggestion to the devs if they read this would be a way to practice vocabulary. I like to practice speaking Russian with my friends to show off and they always joke that I’m some kgb sleeper but I’d like to be able to use more and newer words in the sentences I show them. Plus, I feel like it would make doing the lessons much more gratifying because I won’t have to constantly tap on the Russian words to see their meanings. Great app, keep adding to it, I’m learning a lot!

Print too small

I cannot read the print because it is way too small I can’t find a place to make it larger.

THE BEST APPLICATION TO LEARN LANGUAGES ??? I RECOMMEND

Only for native speakers

ghlatta3

Duolingo does not actually teach a language; it only corrects what it sees as mistakes (and it only accepts its own version of “correct”, which is pretty frustrating as noted by multiple native speakers). This app likes to test on material and words that have not been used before, and when the guessed answer is wrong (how could it not be when you’ve never seen it before?), it makes sure to blast a nasty sound and message to remind you that you failed. How is it that the user failed when the Duolingo app doesn’t teach? I’m looking for a new language app to get away from such a condescending experience.

Yeah, no. Read this NOW

stargazing waterfalls

Ok first of all there’s no option to learn sign language but that’s ok, but I just read a one-star review that said the ugly green pigeon sent them DEATH THREATS when they didn’t do a lesson. That is horrible and mean and cruel and just overall something that requires a lot of synonyms of awful to describe. - Thanks for reading, Hazel

Great App

JoeCool90au

I’d rather see ads for Duolingo instead of whatever mind numbing apps they try to get kids to download
