It’s really nice but needs work

I really want to love this email app but it does have issues that I can’t get past for now. It doesn’t refresh my emails usually until I open the app. So I miss emails because it doesn’t notify me quickly. Sometimes I tend to have to force close the app to refresh it. I’m not running betas either, official release only. I can’t tell what emails I’ve replied to or forwarded. I want the little icon in my inbox to show this. I’ve requested but you don’t really hear what’s coming from the developer. Be able to select multiple emails without having to click edit, then select emails button. Let me press and hold an email or a quicker way with less steps to move multiple emails. Be able to turn on conversation view by account. I have one account I want my emails grouped, one account I don’t. Right now it only applies to all accounts. Search doesn’t work well finding old emails because it seems like the app doesn’t download emails. I’m guessing that’s the reason but it’s hard to use search. No send later feature. Hopefully it’s coming but no clue.

Had never worked correctly; absolute trash

Cloud syncing of accounts is arcane and barely works. Support articles are out of date and unclear. Messages reshuffle at random in my inbox. Currently, my Gmail account only works in Canary every 48 hours or so—the rest of the time, it just won’t get new mail. The support team is sporadic. Sometimes they respond promptly to issues, other times they ignore emails for more than a week. About a month after I bought the app, they reverted my fully paid version back to a “free” version, because they changed version numbers and decided everyone needed to pay again to get the update. I now have constant “upgrade to pro” ads in my inbox, despite having paid $30 for the app on iOS and MacOS a matter of weeks prior. A garbage pile of an app produced by a trash heap of a company. *Update 8/25/20* To the developer: my ticket number is 5988. I have heard nothing for the past month despite requesting an update on my case two weeks ago. *Update 9/30/20* Just installed the most recent update. My problems persist. About every other day, Canary simply will not download new messages no matter what I try. Nothing in the way of a fix from the developer on this yet. Can I get a refund, please? This is not functional software.

Buggy

StevenLovesTech.ml

I used to love Canary (I payed for it!), but recently, the app has become very buggy. Often times emails render incorrectly. Several times attachments have failed to download. Additionally, sometimes Canary will say that it has fetched the latest emails yet is missing a days worth of email from certain accounts. Note that Apple’s own mail client does not experience these issues, so it’s not my email provider’s fault. Please fix these issues.

Impressive

Very fast, even on forwarded email. Would love to see an option for Apple reminders connection, then it would be icing on the cake...

Not that fast and terribly expensive.

There are many email programs out there that are free and I would suggest using one of them. This isn't fast, doesn’t have that many features and is super expensive.

Best email client i’ve ever used!

I really love canary and all of its features. Hopefully it gets apple watch complications, & iOS 14 widgets. But thank you!

Good - But could use fine tuning

I paid for the pro version. The app displays emails better than most other apps including the default email app. You can tag favorites (contacts) and with a tap see all emails and attachments which is very handy. Has other useful features too. * For fine tuning: - You can choose not to see or preload images... But I don’t see a way to press an option/ icon to enable them in an email. This needs to be added. Or one should be able to select contacts that automatically display images by default while blocking all other. Having both of these features would be nice. - The menu to the left of the screen that shows your email accounts needs to be condensed. The all email folders need to be condensed into one grouping instead of two. This is the top two sections above your accounts. Again this just all needs to be condensed and less empty space. - Would be great if the app could fetch mail every 15 minutes or hour, instead of push.

Not quite ready

I want to like this app, and there is much to appreciate, starting with their interest in privacy. But there are some things that just seem like they were overlooked and it makes me wonder what else (behind the scenes) might’ve also been overlooked. For instance, if you’re reading an email and decide you need to handle it later, you cannot mark the email as “unread” - you have to go back out to the message list and do it there. If you decide to not show images by default (yay privacy), there is no ability to override it on a per-message basis. The end. Cannot do it. So if there is some kind of information sent in an image (a login code, a coupon, flyer, etc.) you just plain ole cannot override the default. There are a few other things that need massaging too, none are huge, but all are like: why was this overlooked. I have submitted these to support but have not yet heard that they have implemented them or addressed them (support did acknowledge them). Lastly, the cost is not too high, but the things that are added are of little value. Couple that with the things that aren’t quite right, and I wonder how long I’ll stay.

Disappointed

Tonight I lost a long email I was typing not once, but twice. I have no idea what I did, but the email was gone. I looked in the Drafts folder, but it wasn’t there. The fact that it will delete a work in progress without warning is completely unacceptable. I wasted $20. Back to the default mail client. It’s not fancy, but it’s never thrown away any work. Edit: Now it’s thrown away four emails while I was I the midst of typing them. Somehow I swiped my finger wrong and everything was gone.

Not that great

I have tried every email client on the AppStore, this one ranks low on the list. Nothing re-imagined. Nothing works especially well. Too many missing features. Not super intuitive. Maybe if you only have one email address to manage, other than that I’d move on.
