Potentially great but flawed (2 years...NO UPDATES!)

I’ve been a subscriber for about two years. The fact that I can review games and see my errors and also see what moves are better is a GREAT feature. However, there are some major flaws with this app. First, there are WAAAY too many “Disconnects” in the middle of games. Also, you cannot choose the amount to bet on each game. This means that you can end up losing all of your “money” in just a few games. This means you have to purchase more with real money. Also, there have been ZERO UPDATES in over 2 years. There supposedly is an update today, but I’ve been trying for hours to play or update and keep getting either a NETWORK ERROR message or a DISCONNECT error. Please update and fix the app! Feb 5, 2019: Still NO COMMUNICATION from developer about an update. Still over !!2 YEARS!!! since last update! Still no update... 2++ YEARS since last update. STILL MANY DISCONNECTS every day. STILL DISCONNECTING numerous times every day. May 6, 2019: still NO update. No communication. Still disconnecting. Dec. 5, 2019: Still no update in OVER 3 YEARS. No communication.

After I first downloaded the game and started playing I could not lose. Amazing rolls so much that I became suspicious. THEN, look out. Could not win - amazing opponent rolls, lots and lots of double-fives especially. Look, I expected if I paid $5 per month that it would be legit. Nope. So if you are looking for a “real” backgammon site, keep looking. This one is a money-grabbing scam.

10/31/19 - I had been updating my review for months, explaining my bad experiences with this app. I came back today to share yet another bad experience, but my previous review is gone. I didn’t delete it; clearly the developers did. Here’s a recap: This app favors Japanese players. DO NOT accept doubles from a Japanese player. If you do, they will get doubles and perfect rolls to win the game. If you do find yourself winning, the game will disconnect. I have never paid any money to these guys, which explains why I have a hard time winning against them. Great graphics but they don’t make up for the incredibly biased algorithms. I will be back to update.... And right after I posted this review, I got matched with a Japanese player. Big surprise that I lost. 11/4/19 - I was clearly winning in today’s game (I only play one game per day unless I win, which is RARE) when my opponent suddenly got doubles and perfect rolls. He offered to double, but I wisely declined. 11/7/19 - I got paired with yet another player who got doubles every other roll. 11/8/19 - Played my one daily game today. I had a slight lead against my opponent when, here’s a surprise, he got doubles and perfect rolls. 11/16/19 - I was matched with a Japanese player, who got doubles after doubles and perfect rolls. The player also had over 6 million chips..... 11/23/19 - Today’s game was more of the same. Opponent got doubles and perfect rolls to win the game. 12/3/19 - Today I was clearly winning the game. Then my Japanese opponent got doubles after doubles to win the game. 12/8/19 - Same thing today. I was winning until the opponent got perfect rolls and of course I lost. Clearly the opponents are robots. Humans do not get statistically impossible rolls like that. 12/13/19 - A miracle occurred! I played a Japanese opponent, who had over a million chips, and I won!! Coincidence, since I’ve been posting many negative reviews??? We’ll see tomorrow when I play.... 12/31/19 - Today I played opponent “kei o” who has over 19 million coins and I lost. Have played this opponent many times before and have never won. Clearly a robot. 1/6/2020 - Today played “kei o” again and lost. Then played “poembg” who has over 16 million coins and I lost. Another robot. 1/21/2020 - Just played three games and lost two. Both losses were because the opponents got multiple doubles. Robots. 1/24/2020 - In today’s game, I was ahead by 100 points. All of a sudden the opponent got perfect rolls to knock me off and I lost 5,000 coins. Clearly a robot. 1/27/2020 - The same old crap today: opponent got multiple doubles and I lost.

The bad reviews noting bad stats are accurate. Japanese flags have something helping them.... I changed my flag from American to Japanese and went from a struggling 25,000 pointer to a 100,000 player over night. Dice do impossible rolls for right player.... 30 moves ahead? Suddenly a “great” player gets (literally) 2 double 6’s and a double 5 and you lose. Hammering a high score opponent? System shuts down and you not only lose but you lose points. I’ve lost more (dozens and dozens) games by “great” opponent getting 3+ doubles in last quadrant end game. Tonight alone I lost 2 games against high players who were behind 200+ to my 100+.... AND I had them blocked with a row of 6 doubles .... System loses contact and I lost both games and points. I have multiple wireless antenna throughout my house... it wasn’t my phone losing contact. The random number generator just isn't accurate... worse.... it does seem rigged... but that can’t be proven. Last night I was pounding a Japanese flag player then he got the only two rolls possible to change the game... a double 5 the s double 4. Suddenly I’m behind with two men out. Lots of better games out there but Heroz does have the best user interface... Is it worth it? Do you throw your phone when you are clearly being ripped off? If so don’t get this. Your choice.

First, they charge 10% of each player’s bet just to play the game. If you contest with players of equal skill, you will both lose in the long run. Second, when playing your six free games, about 75% of the time, you will be disconnected at least once and lose automatically. In the year I’ve been playing, I have only won once by disconnect. Third, the dice rolls are absolutely biased to insure their chosen winner succeeds. I was once well ahead bearing off until my opponent’s last two throws, double 2 and double 6 for the win when I had only three markers to go. Bad luck. The next game was a repeat with 3’s and 6’s. Then two more games, same ending, small double followed by 6’s when I had only three or four small markers ready for the win. Luckily my 6 games were up so it didn’t repeat. Most times, when you accept a double with more than 25% chance of winning, expect to see double 6,s or whatever gives your opponent the best chance to win or even back gammon. DON’T FALL FOR IT. NEVER BUY CHIPS!!!

This would be a five star app if it worked. Way too many “disconnect - you lose” messages. Also you often cannot play because “server is busy - try later”. I play poker and many other apps on my iPad and I have zero issues with disconnecting EXCEPT for BGAce. I wish that I could get a refund.

The server constantly disconnects, oddly when I’m winning, also I’m not paranoid nor racist but red dot flags win a LOT! Is this to frustrate players into spending money? I make a point to watch videos, do tasks to earn money to play. Love playing backgammon on their interface but they need to seriously step up their game and integrity.
