Really Awful

AuntieDMC

Latest update broke it making it useless.

Deception!

Wow, the real purpose of this app is to get you to turn the TRACKING setting ON. The ‘alphabet’ agencies that participate in AppChoices and AdChoices are all ‘self-regulating’ - meaning they do nothing meaningful to diminish their use of data about you! They only want to provide the gullible with a false sense of control! Actually, they get you to navigate TO the various companies website, where the are only bound by that sites terms and conditions, gaining your ad ID and other information from your device, DIRECTLY!

You Have to Enable Request to Track

SuperUser80

People complaining about how this app does not let them actually send requests are making a basic mistake: if you have “Allow Apps to Request to Track” turned OFF in your Settings, you have to first re-enable it—turn it ON. The reason for this is that the “opt out” request is a cookie itself, and you have to first enable the ability for the app to ASK to track, and then give it permission to do so in order to send your opt-out requests. If you have this “Allow Apps to Request to Track” toggled off, the app can’t even ask you for permission, so that’s why it just sits there and does nothing for some folks. (If you want this setting left off, you can just turn it back on when you’re done sending your opt-out requests. But to be clear, allowing apps to ask to track does NOT mean you’re allowing apps to freely track you, it just means you’re allowing their request to pop up to give you the option to allow or not. If you keep it OFF, you just eliminate the nuisance of any app even asking, and just give a blanket “no”. But for apps like this one where you might need to allow tracking access, you first need to turn it on so that the app can ask permission, and then so you can give it permission, so it can then send your preferences. When you’re done just turn it back off again). Go to Settings>Privacy>Tracking and turn on “Allow Apps to Request to Track”. Then open/restart the AppChoices app. Now when it loads, the first thing it will ask is if it can track. Select “Allow.” Once this is allowed, now all of the advertiser’s opt-out/send options will reset and will switch to OFF/SEND (depending on whether you’re on the general or California screen). Just select “CHOOSE ALL” or “send all” for each list (the option at the bottom left of your screen), and a window will pop up telling you how many have been completed (the CA list had one that did not go through but when I went to their website they were out of business so that explained it; the general IBA Choice list showed 39/40, with a single advertiser that I had to send again, and then it showed 40/40 complete). A check will appear next to each that is sent/turned off, so you know it’s been completed. Once finished, I just went back to my Settings and turned the “Allow Apps to Request to Track” option back off (just to keep things quiet) and that was it. Can’t yet vouch for how well the opt-out works (remember, this is just to block the personalized part; you will still see ads, just not using your data. If you don’t want ads at all, get an ad blocker), but I gave it 4-stars for ability to customize opt-out requests, and I wanted to post these instructions bc it seems a lot of people aren’t understanding that it’s their own settings that are blocking the app from working on their device.

Can’t opt out!

Foodie in Training

Useless app. While the instructions say to “select all” and choose “off”.... you can’t change anything. Scam for more data collection

Just doesn’t work

Shawrami

The options to turn off tracking is non existent in the app there is no select all or off button and when you try to click the on option to see if that’ll change it just shows you a link to the companies page.

Tried to opt out on severa occasions but this was somehow super vented. Help as I’m old and have maxed out my card s on Jauvia!

Worthless app

nononoô

This app literally does nothing. There is no opt out button. There are not toggles. NOTHING. App devs, do you even read these? You have wasted your time and outs with a tool that does nothing. There are NO toggles. None. Follow the directions? Nope. THIS APP DOES NOTHING. NOTHING. NOTHING. NOTHING.

worthless

Vktr661

This app works great on android but has no functionality on my iPad. I tried clicking on “send” on every company to opt out but nothing happens. Totally worthless! please fix!

Doesn’t do anything!

So over it!

You cannot opt out of any of the IBA stuff. They even tell you to turn tracking ability “on” on your iPhone before they’ll let you continue. And then you see a bunch of companies, they all have a “yes” next to them, as in, yes they’re tracking you, and there’s no way to change it to no. ISN’T THAT THE ONE THING THIS APP IS FOR???
