Update causes app to become unusable

gogocosmonaut

I'm on a brand new 10.5" iPad Pro, and using this app for more than about 15 seconds causes it to stutter, freeze, and lock up the app. The problems are made much worse when trying to trace a route on the map. It's basically unusable at the moment. Hope we get a stability update pushed.

Awesome!

As a firefighter I was using this application before the last update. Now It is 100 times more useful. I love the ability to text a common location to several recipients. I use this every time we go out-of-county . It's a great way to keep the whole strike team on the same page. Thank you for a great useful tool! UPDATE!! This app keeps getting better!!!! I use it off duty too. When hiking and fishing. It's easy to share great fishing holes.

This app has awesome maps and route tracking. I was having some issues with the maps and data loading but I emailed developer and got a quick response to help me out.

App is awesome for land nav

JFStaudII

I use this app in conjunction with a bad elf gps unit on my iPhone and iPad to setup land nav courses and for plotting operation areas and waypoints on maps and it is so much faster and more accurate than by hand in most cases. I highly recommend this for anyone who uses compasses and maps frequently in the backcountry where cell reception is spotty or nonexistent. The Pro version is worth the money.

Best app for planning and hiking

I've used (or tried to use) a number of online and iOS apps for planning backpacking trips, and Topo Maps+ is the most intuitive and easiest to use. In the field, it is also super easy, and I especially like the elevation profile for assessing climbing/descending progress and remaining effort. The new Mac version is also a very useful addition for tracing planned routes, whether on existing trails or cross country. I have found that the 'snap to trail' feature works much better than in other similar more popular apps (that I have abandoned due to ongoing frustrations.). I generally plan my trips on the Mac and sync to the iPhone. Organizing large numbers of routes and waypoints is easy with the categories feature. (I wish it was possible to sort waypoints by name.) I have used the import/export functions extensively and they are well supported in both the iOS and Mac versions. I have a Garmin inReach Explorer+ for emergency communication and as a navigational backup, and export from Topo Maps+ to load the inReach. It's easy to download maps to the iPhone from the app for offline use while in the wilderness. Using the app intermittently while in the field doesn't consume much battery life in my experience. The developer has been extremely responsive in fixing obscure bugs I have reported, sometimes even on the same day! Whether you're new to this type of app one even a long-term user of other similar apps, you would be well served to give Topo Maps+ a serious try. I have the Pro subscription and highly recommend it if you're an avid hiker or backpacker.
