The best on iOS but lags behind desktop competition

When compared to other code editors available on iOS, Textastic is the best of the bunch. It’s integration with Working Copy is beautiful, and it is mostly a joy to work in. But, when compared to Sublime Text 3 or VS Code on a desktop, it’s not even close. Textastic needs a control palette and a faster ability to get to files (via CMD + P). It also needs more variety when it comes to theming and code editor options. It’s local file system, albeit a symptom of the underpowered iOS, is a bit confusing and unintuitive. Lastly, the interface just has something about it that feels unpolished. Good work so far, but there is so much that this editor leaves you wanting.

Wonderful app, couldn’t work without it.

I’m iPad only and still build and maintain websites for myself and a few clients. While the workflow is different on iPad, I have been using this app for a long time and I love it. It is very powerful and does exactly what I need for website building/maintenance I do. I have put in a request for PHP rendering and hope this becomes available soon as that would make this app PERFECT! Thank you so much Alexander.

iOS Monopoly for web code editing… Use it or don’t

I’ve used Textastic for years. It’s the only viable alternative on iOS for code editing. It has an epic fail or two. For these, I proceed to the laptop and use BBEdit. One major epic fail, unfixed after all these years, is there is no way to empty the internal “browser’s” cache. I have two sites, one with a link to the other. The linked site was updated over two months ago. Online (in Safari) the link correctly yields the long-ago-updated page in the linked site. Viewed locally (preview in Textastic) I still see a copy of the page as it appeared over two months ago. This I would say makes the internal preview meaningless, futile, and worthless. Another flaw—efficiency-wise—is the lack of multi-file search/replace. Makes for a very tedious pursuit on a large folder’s worth of (e.g.,) htm/php files. It would be *nice* to have tidy/untidy and source code check validation but that’s probably asking too much. BBEdit is still king. Textastic is good for mobile touch-up. And Textastic is about all you can find for iOS without paying an unreal price. (You could of course pay MORE than BBEdit’s price, but… why?)

the best text edit on iPhone for sure!

No words, I use this program over years, it’s simply the best. Easy to access FTP with the phone, transfer files, edit files, just wipe out for example an error on your website immediately on the go. Because I use it over years, I can say the programer is an amazing guy!! He didn’t bring a program to the App Store for a fast money, he’s passionate about it and loves it, there is a regular improvement and development since years! I read the change log from 8.0, and again saw it will be better now than ever before :)))

Well Done

There are a couple of apps I lean on heavily and this is one. Another great update has just been released, so I look forward to continuing using this app as one of my go-to text editors.

As Textastic has continued to evolve, I find I do more and more of my web development on my iPad. In tandem with Working Copy, it is now an indispensable tool. Fantastic job!

Mary Poppins of Text Editors

I just mean it’s practically perfect in every way. What’s more, it gets better with every version. The built-in SFTP makes this the perfect companion for web development and countless other tasks. The network storage (including Dropbox) options make it the perfect travel companion for developing pretty much anything. This has more features (and costs far less) than many popular desktop text editors. It’s one of the most useful apps on my iPad and has been for years. I can’t recommend it too highly.

Incredible

If you want to write or revise web programming snippets (css, html, JavaScript), this is really wonderful.

Amazing Editor for the iPad

I have been able to do on the go web development with Textastic and it's built-in ssh terminal. This new update adds a ton of nice-to-have features that push this app from great to fantastic!

Indispensible Editor

I've used Textastic since Week One of my first iPad, and I have had no complaints or issues in all that time. As a user of BBEdit on the Mac since the first commercial version more than 25 years ago, I've come to depend on a slick, powerful and glitch-free code editor for the bulk of my website work. Textastic has become my BBEdit for the growing amount of coding I do on tne iOS platform. Many of the feature additions in v8 are deluxe enhancements that will smooth and speed my workflow. This is a top-drawer app.
