“If I could only keep one app on my iPod, this would be it without a doubt. Skritter will change your life!”
― Wendy Werneth, UN Translator, Switzerland

“Learning to write Chinese characters has never been so fun. From writing zero to 2000+ characters in six months!”
― Brian Jackson, Economist, Alaska

“An absolutely amazing app. While it’s gorgeous (never had this much fun using an iPhone until now), it also makes me want to actually study whenever I have downtime.”
― Greg Bell, Master’s Student, Taiwan

“It has completely changed how I study. You won't find me cooped up inside anymore. You'll find me at the wetlands surrounding the city, using my iPod to Skritter and chatting with the people strolling on the path. Or I'll be at the local dumpling joint, the owner's kids grabbing my iPod to play with the app and "teach" me how to write correctly.”
― Alex Louis, Volunteer, China

Reviews

Great App but I need help!
coffeeandchina

I’m giving this a five star review because this app has significantly increased my character recognition and reading skills! I’ve had some problems recently. The app would not open today. I deleted it and downloaded it again. After signing in, and trying to sync, the app said data was corrupted and I need to delete and download again. Hope problem gets fixed. This is a great app that is helping me reach my language goals.

Really helps me learn!
4ShuMao

Like many of you, I have been trying to learn, but failing due to poor self discipline. Skritter makes learning fun. I am able to spend 20 to 45 minutes per day with the characters. Now many of my Rosetta Stone and Pimsler lessons make more sense.

Best way to learn Chinese characters!
Levi in NY

Very good app for learning the characters, though it suffers from some bugs.

Worth it

Love the app. Just want to thank the development team for such a useful app. Learning how to read Chinese is so much easier.

Needs to update
TMDAliens

This is an overall nice product with one glaring flaw. It desperately needs to be updated for the new screen sizes of the iPhone X and XS. It’s a crime to charge so much for a subscription and not update the software, now that it’s been more than a year since the X has come out. I hope the development team will address this issue ASAP.

A Fine App
HariVis

Perhaps the best for content and ease of use. I have learnt to read and write over300 characters.

Cantonese support yet?
Brumpet

Great app...can’t wait until they add a Cantonese version !

iPhone app hard to use
RayLillywhite

The iPad app works well, but there are major usability issues with the iPhone app. It’s near impossible to press the back and forward buttons. And you can tap to see what the next stroke is, but it always registers as trying to draw a dot. And it will never show you the full stroke order. Either you view the full character, or you have to tap to get a hint then draw what was hinted, then tap again, and hope that somehow the next tap is considered a request for a hint rather than a stroke. It doesn’t even have a way to show you the stroke order the first time you encounter a character, which makes learning new characters with it pretty frustrating. They still haven’t updated it for iPhone X either, which makes all the trade offs that they’ve made to save vertical space all the more frustrating.

Love this app
Jacob_Job

Been using this app off and on for studying characters for the past several years. Whenever I want to get back into reviewing my written Chinese, I always right wall-subscribe.

Love the app
hallwyoming

Love the app on my IPad but haven’t used it much on my phone so I can’t say if that works well or not.
