BEAUTIFUL App

Colinmw

This is such an AMAZING app that has SUCH a BEAUTIFUL and INCREDIBLE design. While it DOES lack a few features, it's definitely worth trying, especially on a tablet!

Update ruined everything

Rene Lee

It takes 5 taps to start sketching. Stop defaulting to typing. You're not Evernote, ok? Paging is gone. Journal is gone. Can't start a new page using gestures. Way to ruin an iconic app. No wonder everyone is leaving 53.

WAS the best!!

I hate to write this, but it's time! I've used "Paper" since day one and have absolutely loved it. It's been my go-to drawing app hands down. I love the app and the pencil!! HOWEVER, SINCE THE LAST UPDATE IT IS JUST EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING TO USE! IT IS JERKY, UNINTUITIVE, AND DOES NOT WORK WELL WITH THE PENCIL ANYMORE!! I love to sketch and typically find it relaxing, but now it's just frustrating! I now find myself using Procreate with Pencil. COME ON GUYS!! IF IT'S NOT BROKE, DON'T FIX IT!! BUT IT IS BROKE NOW, SO PLEASE FIX IT!!!

Well, this is a beautiful app. Wonderful color choices. And there was no charge. That's why I'm rating it so high. BUT, and this is the salient point, I can't use it. It is in landscape mode for all time and eternity apparently. I can rotate images around BY HAND, one at a time, when I hold my table in portrait, but titles, brushes, etc., all remain in landscape mode anyway. Makes this app unusable to me. If there is a way to get this into portrait mode (like every other app I've ever used is able to do), I haven't found it yet. Maybe I should rate it one star only, but it has potential. We'll see.

You've ruined a good thing

This used to be one of my favorite apps. It was my go to sketch-booking tool. The simplicity of the interface and the tools is what made it wonderful. Now the user interface is clunky and confusing. So many unnecessary taps. It's just a shame.

Bring back the journals

M choice

From pencil integration to portrait page rotation for drawing, addition to the free tools, the natural feel of said tools provided.. This app rocks. Although it's been almost 5 months since the release of the new interface, I tried to hold my breath and let it sink in but I can't help to say that the true original layout is what made me enjoy the app. Moving images around from one journal to the next , flicking through my old sketches like an actual sketchbook felt awesome, it's an element that many modern sketching apps lack these days. It would be amazing if develpers provide the option to switch between the interfaces. Maybe a 'back to origins' update would be perfect! Apple has a great advantage over many companies and with most of its apps not because they are full of options and 1000's of buttons , but because the interface provides a comfortable user experience . Start with the interface, let the users choose. Origin/modern.

Love the app, hate the latest update.

I am having major issues with the app since the last update. I try to draw and it either closes the card or lets me draw one swipe then stops. If you are thinking of getting this app, I recommend it. They will probably get the issue fixed.

Frustrating

I can't tell if the update changed functionality that I don't understand or if it's just not working. I replaced the tips on my Pencil, but Paper still doesn't detect the eraser. Pinch/zoom only seems to work sometimes, not at all clear why, and the help is just useless. I'm all for progress but why did you have to take such a nice app and make it difficult to use (or is it buggy? I honestly can't tell).

What Was Good Is Gone

The marvelous thing about the original version of Paper was that it very purposefully didn't try to do everything. It was like no other drawing program because it concentrated on drawing above all else--no levels, no selection tools, just a page and some tools to draw with. You opened paper for one reason: to draw. And it was lovely. And it felt lovingly hand-crafted. Because it played by its own rules, it was able to excel at them. It didn't have to compete with every other drawing app on being more versatile or full-featured. And it was great. But now that's all gone. Now it's just a half-baked poor excuse for a drawing app. Now it does try to do everything, except it is missing so many features it comes off as woefully incomplete. It no longer feels lovingly crafted. It feels alienating and unfocused. I'm sad because it was like no other, and they turned their back on what made them special. I'd give it negative stars if I could.
