NOISE is free iOS app published by ROLI Ltd.

One of my favorite synths, but lacking standard features

AUv3 support is great but I find that I’d rather use Noise’s play grid. AUv3 forced me to use whatever built in midi keyboard the host has. So I wish Noise had inter app audio. That’s like usually the most basic feature in iOS audio. It’s so frustrating that IAA isn’t implemented because your play grid is nice to use.

It’s pretty good

The thing is, it’s pretty cool making music from other artists’ instruments that they use in their song, like for instance, N.E.R.D.-Lemon. That’s pretty cool. The other thing is, you only get 3 music Packs for free. But it’s not that bad. It’s fun mixing music with other artists’ music. It’s just the other music packs are a little over priced. But other than that it’s pretty good.

Love the latest update

Seriously a game changer. Not sure if the props goes to Pharrell, but since he came on board everything's been super chill. One thing: would really dig an easier way to export loops to iOS Garageband. That would make this the perfect pocket-production rig.

Fix this already

App crashes and deletes recorded content = 1 Star. Get it right. I didn’t pay hundreds of dollars for a crappy software app, get it right.

Overdubbing changes how I use it.

If you're a pretentious perfectionist Pro, this may not be for you. But, if you like to create music for fun and entertainment and are a normal human being, this is really great. Version 3 shows their commitment to the software the hardware AND the instrument packs. It’s a night and day difference from all the versions that came before... my blocks have become far more capable and configurable! So, ignore any reviews from before Version 3 was released in September. This is rapidly becoming my number two go-to music app. Sketching ideas is quick, overdubbing makes drum tracks more dynamic, and all the audio can be exported as files to load into your DAW. It’s also easy to upload snippets to noise.fm to share and to download and remix others creations

It’s a cool app, but...

I really liked this app, it was fun, entertaining, and a quick app to play when bored. Even great for my little siblings, it was easy and I wasn’t afraid them ruining any of my progress because it has no levels. The only reason I had deleted it is because I got tired of it quickly. After a month of seeing it on my phone and not touching it I deleted it because I personally viewed it as waste of space. But it’s great for creating cool, quick beats, and even greater for young wannabe DJs.

Just okay

Lightpad is awesome. Software is lacking. Not very good with other programs except for noise which again is just kinda okay.

I want to love this app.

First I’d like to say, I really like the Roli hardware, even though it’s far from cheap. I shouldn’t have bought so many blocks but they’re so cool. I love the seaboard block and am considering buying another one when I can afford it. As much as I want to like Noise I’m a bit disappointed in this app. It has great potential but it feels like a work in progress. I have bought some sound packs and not all the sounds even work. I also wish the snap feature would work better. It would also be cool if it allowed users to import their own sounds. My rating for this app is low right now but I’ll add more stars if Roli would fix some of the issues I have been having, mainly the purchased sound packs not working. I’d be happy to let someone know which sounds don’t work even though it would be a bit of a hassle to go through and try them all. I want to improve this rating and rewrite this review but right now Noise just doesn’t seem worth the price of blocks and it doesn’t use them to their full potential. I wouldn’t recommend someone buy blocks to use with this app, maybe Equator but not Noise. Also Roli should make a mobile blocks dashboard cause I enjoy using blocks with Korg Gadget so it would be cool being able to change modes without having to use a computer. I’d be happy if someone from Roli would reach out to me and let me know if they can fix some of the issues this app has because I love the idea of bringing around blocks and making music on the go but this app could be so much better. Hoping I can give it a five star rating in the future.

Lots of potential, not there yet

Things we need: 1. Better sound organization: I want to make groups of sounds so I don’t have to scroll forever during a live performance 2. Effects controls: I can control effects using my Rise, but I can’t otherwise and the effects choices do not save 3. More tracks and track options: panning is a must, and better abilities to start and stop a loop, easier methods of changing a loops length. Sometimes I accidentally trigger a loop and can’t stop it 4. More quantization control: swing amount, different subdivisions of quantization 5. Inter app audio: don’t understand why this still isn’t a thing 6. Better build quality in the Seaboard block. I’ve played a few mismanufactured boards and the rubber can easily peel off 7. Maybe a sound controls block to bring the Rises effects control to the blocks What I love: 1. Hardware responsiveness: how my phone has less latency with a seaboard and a block than my brand new MacBook Pro is mystifying. 2. The new light block is SUPER rad. Very responsive and expressive. 3. Cheap, dope sounds (for the most part) the SWAM stuff is especially insane although I wish I could make it polyphonic 4. I can use my phone to perform live interesting and expressive electronic music: it changes the game
