NHK WORLD TV is the English-language international broadcasting service of NHK, Japan’s only public broadcaster.

This app provides you with NHK WORLD TV’s news and a variety of programs via live, 24 hours a day. As a newly added feature, you can now check for the latest news.

Many of the programs are also available as video on-demand (VOD), except for some programs due to reasons of copyright.

The video quality depends on your communication environment. The app will adjust connection speed automatically.
Please be aware that the service is free, however, data communication fees are the responsibility of users.

Great app but there is an update issue.
A once happy fan

I like this app but there is an update issue. Now when I open the app it prompts me to update to the newer version (7.1.8 I believe) but this version requires iOS 10 or later which my iPad doesnt support. So frustrating. I'll continue to use the app for now hoping they can resolve this but I'm already tiring of being prompted to do something that is not possible.

No Japanese-language content
As de corazones

All around the world, national broadcasters like the BBC, NPR/PBS, RTVE, Radio France, CBC/Radio Canada, etc. offer content in their own languages for the rest of the world. NHK should offer its Japanese-language content to people outside Japan. It's not 1995 anymore!

NHK was our favorite app until recent update
myicepod

New update takes user interface to a new low! You used to be able to find your programs by a list in alphabetical order, now the app no longer lists programs to choose from but takes you to their website where user interface is clunky and confusing. Difficult to find programs by topic. Bring back your terrific app and ditch the website where cookies and tracking ads take away from enjoyment

Airplay support
ALChamp79

This app is pretty good. The content is great. I just with the Apple TV app supported airplay.

Latest update doesn’t have program schedule.
Don Pedro Pagina

This was one reason to have the app. I could look up when favorite programs were going to be on. A big mistake in my opinion.

Casting is broken for on-demand
Biatcheslov

Latest update (Nov 2019) has broken ability to cast on-demand programs. There is no cast button for each individual program and the cast button that is otherwise available on the main menu doesn’t do anything. Casting for live programming still works so not sure what happened?

Update broke Chromecast
lolasaysyes

Accidentally did the update today on both of my devices and discovered to my horror that the update makes it virtually impossible to cast to Chromecast. I can get the Live programming to cast because the cast button is on the same screen as live. However, when trying to view any On Demand content, it now takes you to the web view for the program where the video is embedded. There is no cast button on these pages. If I wanted to use the web option, I can just go to the website. Why break the app by just linking it back to the website? I also dislike the new navigational format, but that’s a different issue. Devs, PLEASE FIX CHROMECAST!

Where are all the programs?
INVOCATEVR

I loved the NHK world app before the recent Nov 2019 update. Now I can’t access all the different programming I would regularly watch. I’ve clicked through all the different pages to try to find them to no avail. If it’s there it’s poorly designed and not intuitive. And if they have disappeared why? Yes it’s great now it’s available in 17 languages and it’s nice there’s access to radio/podcast but when you can’t watch the amazing shows like CoreKyoto, design talks plus, fashion express... what’s the point? Please correct this, as I am a total fan of your impeccable programming and usually only access thru the app.

NHK Has Wrecked a Good App
blpdxor

Prior to the update mid Nov 2019, the Broadcast schedule for the day could easily be accessed, recent programs were a simple swipe away, as were all programs. There were collections of programs around topics, such as Green tea. Now, you can’t even tell what live program you are watching, let alone what comes on in the next few hours. Who did they test this on, the app design team after they went out drinking?
