Material is good, the app stinks

Macholley

I love the articles, but can't finish reading one before the page goes blank. It seems as though the app is trying to refresh but is unable to complete the process. Hopefully it gets fixed.

Seems to be fixed

Not the best magazine app but i haven't experienced the problems most are describing. Plus its $2 an issue. Highly recommended.

New format unhelpful (May 2016)

RbFoster7

National Review, an excellent journal of sensible, informed opinion and analysis, just completely revamped its app. The result is a disaster. The biggest disappointments are the inability to view all of the covers at a time, making it impossible to see recent issues at a glance, and the horrid "text" feature, which unlike the very nice previous versions opens a text window in the bottom half of the screen. Who thought that was a good idea? Probably the pajama boy NR has recently been lambasting. The positive: the app is less unusable than the current iteration of the NR website. Whoever designed that monstrosity clearly never tried to search for a specific article on it! Revised Comments--while I still miss being able to review the covers easily, he text feature is not so bad. You can enlarge the text window so that it fills the screen, though it does take some getting used to.

Top-tier publication, barely average app

Gide0n

It's much better to go to the site than using the app because the app doesn't work well. The site/content is superb and I'm happy to be a subscriber! But improve the app, please.

I read the NR blogs more than the magazine, so it's helpful to see them here. But why no authors' names? D'uh!

Stay away from this version

It worked fine before, but now crashes new iPad, no offline access, and non-working account creation.

Magazine Great, New App Atrocious

revbrett

Confusing, unfriendly interface, unreliability of offline content. Merits an immediate fix at almost every level.

Crashes all the time. Please fix.

Frustratingly poor

It should alarm the editors that it is such a chore to do something so simple as read a piece from start to end without a freeze, crash, or whiteout. Capitalists understand the need for advertising, but not if it makes the content impossible to access.

Ad's prevent all use

Hilk1111

Hey NR, I'd pay double the full price subscription if I could get this without advertising. The ad content consistently causes the app to freeze in a white screen ensuring that users see neither content nor ad. The magazine portion works a little better but the website portion of the app has recently become unusable. One can start off reading an article without issue, but once the first or second ad scrolls into view, it is all over. I give 3 stars because of course the content is excellent and worth some frustration, but the delivery is worthless.
